Sewing machine is a Janome 6600. DH set it up for me so it is flush with the table top. :-)

Carrie, I live in an a frame so recognize some of the problems with sloped ceiling/walls
This is one of the things I've done is buy the common as a old shoe white shelving units and turn them upside down. I have at least 10 of them in my quilt room.

Notice the thread storage above the cutting board, framed to take into account the slope of the timber.
