2012, New Beginnings or "Will Quilt for Cleaning!"

It's time to organize. To simplify. To prioritize.

My sewing studio sometimes resembles being struck by some natural disaster (hurricane, tornado...). Especially this past year during/after quilting frenzies with deadlines; no time to pick up! One could hardly find a path to walk through.

That, plus the fact that I have Quilter's A.D.D. (adding another project before the previous one is finished, haha!) amounts to a happy, comfortable mess of a sewing room. I can't help it, I want to make everything!

Recently, in exchange for machine-quilting, my friend Carol offered to help organize (disaster clean-up) my studio. She worked for four days, sorting, cleaning and organizing my projects, gadgets, supplies, fabrics and workspaces. She bagged and boxed, threw away teeny scraps I'd been hanging on to (just don't look!), even cleaned out that TOP DRAWER, you know the one! She stowed all my UFOs into bags in the window seat. She separated the mending pile, organized a few current projects into a stacking bin, and sorted fabric scraps into their little plastic shoeboxes in their respective colors. Voila! A clear path to the sewing machine!

Looks good! That sounds like a nice trade off.

Marni 01-02-2012 03:54 AM

Awesome-I need a friend like that-it's easier to have someone else "toss" the stuff we really don't need.

ksdot417 01-02-2012 07:39 AM

What a great trade off.

Panchita 01-02-2012 10:59 AM

Love it! I'm so nosy - I always love seeing inside other people's sewing studios :)

petlover 01-03-2012 07:04 AM

WOW. What a great friend. She did a great job. I know she will be happy with the trade too.

k9dancer 01-03-2012 07:30 AM

May I borrow Carol? I can offer the same trade.

Mousie 01-03-2012 07:45 AM

A clean and well organized sewing room is better than...
um, dirty, LOL! :D

Tartan 01-03-2012 07:49 AM

I want a Carol! I want a Carol!

huntannette 01-03-2012 07:58 AM

Wow...wish my space looked that good.....

annpryor 01-03-2012 09:21 AM

I want a friend like that.

anniesews 01-03-2012 10:09 AM

It looks so nice I would hate to mess it all up again.

ORSunshineQuilter 01-03-2012 11:56 AM

All I can say is WOW! I too have quilting ADD but mine is worse, alas. I have TWO rooms like this! One is for my embroidery machine. It is not quite as bad as the quilting room but OMG! I have to stop every 3-4 months and do my own cleaning so I can find things. Glad to hear I am not alone! LOL Happy 2012!

kat112000 01-03-2012 11:58 AM

WOW! What an awesome trade off!!! Your quilting space looks so nice, I just wanna get in there and mess it up!! LOL!!! Enjoy!!!

Looks great! That's something I need to do...get organized. ;-)

patimint 01-03-2012 02:55 PM

So how fast can Carol get to my house? Fantastic job of organizing.

MargeD 01-03-2012 03:35 PM

WOW and double WOW. Two friends tried to help me organize my basement sewing room. Unfortunately, within a few months I had unorganied it. Old habits die hard. Now I have to be a little better organized, or I don't get to sleep in my bed at night. It works.

Veronica 01-03-2012 06:14 PM

She is good, everyone should have a friend like her.

kbs 01-03-2012 06:26 PM

she's not just a friend, she's an angel. Looks great.

janetter 01-03-2012 06:42 PM

Dear Carol,

Your letter of recommendation arrive via email today and I would like you to know that I am reserving the position of organizer open for you for as long as it takes to get you here. I was very impressed by the examples of hard work and expertise expressed in the letter. Please let me know how soon you can start.

Your "Quilting" Friend

butterflies5518 01-03-2012 06:48 PM

Awesome job, kinda inspiring (notice the "kinda"), guess I'm gonna have to organize mine **sigh** someday! Yours looks awesome!

TiltedEars 01-04-2012 05:40 AM

I'm envious! It's wonderful!!!

MarthaT 01-04-2012 05:54 AM

Oh wow! Now to keep it that way. (That's always my challenge!)

WMUTeach 01-04-2012 06:25 AM

Congratulations! You have a friend of great value. Now your challenge will be to 1. work on the UFO's, 2. keep the path to the machine clear and to ...... oh just revel in beauty of organization and forget all of those silly challenges. It is lovely. Now I must take some of theses good organization ideas and put them to work in my own sewing space. Thanks to both of you for the pictures and the good ideas.

BuzzinBumble 01-04-2012 09:27 AM

Deonn, your friend Carol is a true treasure! Can I borrow her? LOL! Seriously she could make a business of doing this - your stuff looks terrific! It's inspiring as well a great stress reducer to work in a well organized area. Have fun!

Happy Tails and Janetter, you both are just too funny! :D

matraina 01-04-2012 02:39 PM

Love your barter suggestion. I'd like to have one, too.

sew1 01-04-2012 03:37 PM

Great organization. I had to chuckle when I saw all the little scissors. I probably have that many, but can't find them when I need them. Maybe this is what I should do.

charlottemarie 01-04-2012 04:29 PM

Don't lose that friend! She is a prize!

bepositive 01-04-2012 04:59 PM

WOW!!! That looks GREAT!!! :) :) :) :)

VivianW 01-04-2012 06:29 PM

Awesome! I need a friend like this! Now, only if I had something to trade...

imanoni 01-04-2012 08:41 PM

paulettepoe 01-04-2012 09:16 PM

Think she'd travel to southern Utah, Cedar City, and do the same for me???? Oh how I wish!!!!!!

danece 01-04-2012 11:08 PM

WOW, this looks great, I wish I could get my sewing/quilting space looking as good as yours

KyKaren1949 01-04-2012 11:18 PM

sewlisa 01-06-2012 08:21 PM

Wow! That looks awesome. You have inspired me. Now, to get me a sewing room...:o

rekrug 01-08-2012 09:18 AM

Can I be adopted by Carol?

Blinkokr 01-09-2012 07:54 AM

WOW - What a beautiful job, wish mine was that organized.
Have a Blessed day
Ellen

spartan quilter 01-14-2012 09:19 AM

That looks so great and what a great friend. I can only pray that I can get mine to that point some day. I keep promising myself when I can get moved into my new sewing room, that I am going to get organized and nothing comes in, unless it really has a use and a place to sit and I can find it when I need it. lol

Country1 01-21-2012 10:04 PM

Can I borrow her for a couple days? Looks great, wish mine was that organized!...
