Six months ago my DH and I hired someone to finish the basement where i do all my sewing and quilting. He told us that it's going to be ready in a month.Guess what! After 3 months he left us without finishing the job .Since we were short of money we decided to finish it ourselves. And here it is!

Beautiful room!

You guys did a great job. My husband and I do all our own renovations. We are too cheap to pay someone else to do something we can do ourselves. And the feeling of accomplishment when you are finished is absolutely wonderful! Love your new space.

GagaSmith 11-25-2014 05:07 PM

Sorry for your troubles but it came out great. That is one light and bright basement.

Tartan 11-25-2014 05:09 PM

Worth the wait, great space!

patsynel 11-25-2014 05:27 PM

How lucky you are to have such a great place to create and that you and your husband were talented to finish the job. It looks great!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nammie to 7 11-25-2014 06:05 PM

You have certainly credated a beautiful space! You did a great job and should be proud.

quiltingcandy 11-25-2014 06:17 PM

Your room looks great, you must be very happy! I am sorry that you have the extended completion time. It seems to be the norm in construction. We had a rather extensive amount of work done to our house and I asked if we could get a completion bond on it. The contractor was very insulted, said they don't do bonds because they never go over the time they promise. (I handled property claims for a large insurance company, so I knew that was seldom the case.) It was only a couple weeks over, so I wasn't too concerned. But 2 months over, I would have been crazy. It must be great being able to finish it yourself.

That is an awesome space I could only dream of having. You are so blessed!! Enjoy!!

Now that you're done, you can come to my house and fix up a sewing area for me! Great job and I know that you will thoroughly enjoy it.

QuiltingVagabond 11-25-2014 07:19 PM

Good job! We just started a basement remodel ourselves - last weekend we framed a small bathroom and closet. We did a pretty good job if I do say so myself!

Mariposa 11-25-2014 07:21 PM

You have a beautiful place to sew and create congratulations.

Sorry about your contractor issues seems like for every really good one there are 2 bad ones. Be sure to lodge complaints in every possible venue particularly the contractors board hopefully you can save someone else from the same troubles.

Applause! Applause! Applause! Give yourselves pats on your backs! You did a great job. Hope you didn't pay him full price upfront. If you did take him to court. In the meantime, enjoy your work. Your room is beautiful.

mustangquilts 11-26-2014 07:43 AM

Turned out beautiful!!!

MaryMo 11-26-2014 07:58 AM

Congratulations! Awesome room. I had the same experience with a kitchen addition/remodel. It's still not done after 6 years and 3 remodelers .... the last two were upset that I would not allow them to tear out what the previous one had done and that nothing was square. It's a 65-year-old house !!!!

Julie R 11-26-2014 08:25 AM

Love it!! It's gorgeous!! :)
