The Bunker - finally all set up
8 Attachment(s)
Still playing around with what I should call my space - referring to it as the bunker for now, since it is on the lower level and it’s my ‘safe space’ lol. My Dh has relinquished the entire level to me, 3 rooms. How lucky am I? It’s taken some experimentation, but I’m pretty happy with how I’ve organized it. I’m retired now, so this has been a long time coming and a dream come true. To add icing to the cake I discovered a lovely quilt guild (English speaking too!) just a 10 minute drive away.
Here’s the tour... Formerly the bedroom, repainted from bright orange to white and it now houses a used Nolting Hobby Quilter on a Gracie table which I purchased used last year. Finally ready to use! The wall cabinet houses all my books and some fabric and notions. My lovely supportive DH helped me with the design wall. Another view of the longarm room, DH added a shelf to the small closet, it’s nice and deep, 30 inches. I also keep the wireless printer in this room, handy for paper piecing. Formerly the family room, but we have a living room on the main floor which is fine for the 2 of us. I added a large folding table from Costco and prettied it up with a quilt, 70 linear inches of cutting space, which I love. I keep a treadmill here as well, to keep me limbered up during the long cold Canadian winters. Entire back wall is enclosed closets, middle closet holds my stash, lots of room to expand. I have a TV in front of my machine so I can listen to podcasts, utube instructional videos, music. The 3rd room is to the right of the stairs. A bathroom/laundry room which does double duty as my ironing space. DH and I made a big board this week, 22” across and 60” long, which sits on top of my regular ironing board. More storage space above the washer/dryer, and an extra counter which is handy for trimming after pressing. Another cabinet for storage, I chose to hang rulers, smaller mats with Command hooks on the inside of the door. And a little nook for hand sewing. I keep some finished, seasonal quilts, table runners etc in the cabinet. Thanks for looking. |
so many nice touches that make it 'home' as opposed to 'storage' :)
I Love being retired, hope you do too |

Wow, EVERYTHING is amazing, I can't even begin to name the parts I like the best. Well yes I can...what I would give for the room to have a long arm. I thought about kicking the family out of the den, but they just won't budge, lol. And speaking of room, my my do you have room, I'm very jealous of that part for sure. Congratulations on your new space it is perfect.

I am oh so jealous! I tell myself I am lucky to have the space that I do. So many just have the dining room table. Then I see this and say "I Want It!" :)
Have fun. |

Super. Thanks for sharing.

That's got to be the homiest, most inviting bunker ever. I think I might declare war just so I can join you there! I love that you have stash behind doors. The cozy hand sewing niche is lovely, and all the ample linear surfaces you have are ideal. Thanks for posting.
|
How lucky to have all this room for your hobby! Thanks for sharing your wonderful bunker...
|
I love your bunker. All I see missing is an ice box to keep cold ice tea and a day bed so I could take an afternoon nap. LOL Enjoy your retirement.
|
Paint me green! I'm envious of how tidy it is not just the space.
|
Your space is beautiful!

Just amazing and I know you know how loved you are. I to am working on making half of our finished lower level into my STUDIO. I am keeping a journal as to what I want in it and where I want set up. We will not be doing till next winter as I want to have all my ideas first. I live on a beautiful lake and have a walk out to the lake side . this will be the space I will be using and I already know that my sewing machine will look out one of these windows. I do not long arm quilt , so I do not need space for that. Your pictures of your finished project has really inspired me to keep focused and pay attention to the small details. So thank you for sharing and enjoy being creative in your BEATIFUL space, I am happy you found a quilt group to be part of , I do not know what I would do with out my quilting group friends. just a quick note, the people who have the cottage next to us are all from Montreal and I only see them in the summer .
|
Looks like heaven!!! You and DH have done a fabulous job!!!
