Your cabinet island cutting table is terrific! I like your idea and am so happy that you have the opportunity to design and enjoy this beautiful, yet functional, addition to your sewing area. Quilters share and exchange ideas so freely that we all benefit from someone's special acquisition. Now, you've inspired me to clear off the top of my cutting surface this morning. I have been cutting out quilt tops from flannel and making piles of projects. With that said, I will get busy and not procrastinate any longer. Happy sewing to you!!!!

tslowery 06-21-2012 04:02 AM

That is nice...so organized.

starshine 06-21-2012 05:43 AM

Looks great. Did your dh make it? Haven't read all the posts yet so maybe that has been answered.

rusty quilter 06-21-2012 07:07 AM

Not only a thoughtful design, but a great way to keep your fabric out of the sunlight and dust until you get ready to use it. Looks perfect to me!

Wow!! That's awesome!! Lucky, lucky girl!!!

I love this idea. I want my husband to make a cutting table for me. I have one that is behind my sewing table but would love to have one that I can stand up and cut. I think it would be easier to be able to move around the table to cut material. LOVE IT!!!

Mariposa 06-22-2012 06:34 AM

Neat cutting table, and the drawers are great! :)

TexasSunshine 06-22-2012 12:02 PM

That is fabulous, so neat.

grandmerequilter 06-23-2012 11:45 AM

Great cutting center! Tell us how you fold your fabric, please. I need to use drawers for large pieces of fabric. I like the way you have yours sized. Enjoy the space!

sewbeadit 06-24-2012 02:15 AM

That is a really cool storage unit!

Did quite a bit of thinking on how I wanted my cutting table to be and this is what I came up with. It was made similar to my kitchen island so far as the top, and I had 12 drawers of various depths in it. The top three are deep enough for the little items like rotary cutters and thread. The rest of the drawers will hold my material once I get it folded to fit the drawers. I have about 5 of the drawers filled now. I am working on a Dear Jane quilt right now with the group on the forum and I think this idea will really help speed up the process of picking the color for each of the blocks. Will be really neat to just pull out a drawer and see a selection instead of digging though the storage bins I have had to keep my material in for the past 40 years.

Wow so great, gives me an idea....I have a old buffet or dresser it is and could do this as well with my FQ and small pcs. of mtl. Would not take up room on my book shelves either..........could use the top of it too for layout, thanks and yours is so great......just to open the drawer and there is what u need

CountryHouseQuilting 07-18-2012 01:31 PM

Love the way you have the fabric organized in the drawers!!!! And love all those colors. I'm an organizational freak and seems like every time I get stuff straight, I get more...LOL. Enjoy your beautiful space.

Tashana 07-18-2012 02:34 PM

Taank you for posting the picture of your cutting table. It is perfect. I am in the process of moving from my kitchen table to my basement where I can have permanent sewing area and I need cutting table that is tall enough so I do not break my back. I hope you do not mind if I shamelessly copy it.

mrs theo 07-19-2012 09:52 AM

I love it!!!

gragra 07-19-2012 01:32 PM

This is terrific! Did you build it, and if so where did you get the plans? I so want my daughter to build me one like this.

CraftyCricket 07-19-2012 05:17 PM

Very nice, I wish I had room for something like that.

pippi65 07-23-2012 08:45 PM

VERY NICE!! You're gonna love that space you have for fabrics. Congrat's on the new sewing room. I sewed in a corner of our basement for 15 years till we bought a house. Now I have 2 sewing rooms. It's nice to have a space just for yourself.

SewExtremeSeams 07-23-2012 08:51 PM

I love how you organized the dresser and made it into a storage unit and cutting board. I'm thinking right now that I have a dresser, barely used, sitting in a storage closet in my basement. I think a little paint and something for the top and it'll look great and function wonderfully in my new sewing room. Thanks for the idea. BTW, what did you use for the board top?

wvdek 08-10-2012 05:16 PM

Oh my - I am jealous. I really really like your table. I'm going to file this away for future reference. Enjoy!
