cutting table with storage
2 Attachment(s)
Still in process of moving on up from the kitchen table to a real sewing room ( my first sewing room!)
Did quite a bit of thinking on how I wanted my cutting table to be and this is what I came up with. It was made similar to my kitchen island so far as the top, and I had 12 drawers of various depths in it. The top three are deep enough for the little items like rotary cutters and thread. The rest of the drawers will hold my material once I get it folded to fit the drawers. I have about 5 of the drawers filled now. I am working on a Dear Jane quilt right now with the group on the forum and I think this idea will really help speed up the process of picking the color for each of the blocks. Will be really neat to just pull out a drawer and see a selection instead of digging though the storage bins I have had to keep my material in for the past 40 years. |
Holy cow, that's perfect. I'm jealous.

Great idea! No back-breaking days at the cutting table. Very nice.
Looks so wonderful! Neat as a perfect picture. Trust you enjoy every moment you spend in you special retreat.
That is really great!!!!
WOW! Amazing room and table and storage! I am also jealous!! :)
WOW! Love it. What a great space saver.
Wow that is really nice , did you have the top made for the dresser bottom ? It is a wonderful ideal.
Thats beautiful!!! Drool drool:-P
What a fabulous idea for combining both storage and cutting, I'm sure you must be very excited with your wonderful room...Happy stitching :)
That is just great-enjoy your new space.
Super wonderful. Who made this for you or did you buy it?
Oh wow! that is neat. I love it. Which I had one.
I love it ...!! Don't forget a rubber mat to stand on to help relieve your back strain.. Where do you keep your rulers?
I have seen some folks put a pegboard on the side of the cutting table...Just an idea... but love what you have done. Hugs Quiltinmama |
Wondering at what height did you make the table top? I've tried cutting on our high table and it doesn't work so well for me. Angle just isn't right for rotary cutting. This is indeed a beautiful piece of furniture for your room.
Stunning! This is what we are all dreaming about!
Love it! Jealous!
Very nice! And so neat!
Great, Love this. You are so organized.:)
IF and or WHEN I get a LARGE sewing room, I will use the kitchen island idea too for cutting table. In fact if no one is around that's what I use now. Right height, walk around, drawers for storage, stool too to sit and read books or what ever. Maybe two stools for ONE visitor.
Isn't it fun to pull a drawer and see you fab? I too have stuff in tube. Bummer. Enjoy your room. Love it must love it. |
Great space and storage area.
Nicely done ... now please show us the rest of your new space!
Your table is gorgeous. You are very fortunate to have such a great space! Congratulations.
That is beautiful! Looks very organized and neat. Wish mine was so neat. Looks like your off to a GREAT start.
Oh, it looks beautiful! What a back saver.
Now that is neat! Gonna have to book mark this for reference. Congrats on your new sewing room and cutting table/storage.
Fabulous idea... you are a lucky girl!
That is great, I wouldn't f thought about putting material in it. If mine, it would be full of junk, but I like this.
Wow, I love your cabinet and cutting table, please be sure to post more pictures of your sewing room

Thanks for all the nice comments. Will try to answer the questions...height of table top is 36 inches. My husband will be building the rest of the cabinets and sewing table, but he decided this island was something he wanted to have built for me. We went to Lowes at first, but learned that even though they called it a custom cabinet - you had to choose from their options...no room for getting exactly what I wanted. So we called some local cabinet makers and were pleasantly surprised they would build a cabinet from better materials for less cost. I originally planned to have this cabinet painted white as this is what we will do with the rest of the room...but the cabinet maker charged more to paint it than to stain it...soooo he did a great job of matching the stain to the flooring. I will post more pics as we get more stuff built for it. We are presently working on another storage cabinet then will work on the sewing table.

Wonderful space and love your cutting table.
awesome cutting table and storage.
Yes, I agree. That's a great piece for your room. I really like the countertop material too. Wanted to buy a house once with similar blue countertops, mostly for the kitchen, but it didn't work out!
Wow, I'm impressed with your fabric folded neatly in your drawers! I love the cutting island. Do you have a cutting mat that will fit the top? Don't want to mar your beautiful top. Please show us more pictures as your room progresses. It's about time you had your own sewing room! Yippee!!
I want one!!!!!!!!!!!
Your cabinet is awesome!
Way to go on this one! That is a wonderful cutting and storage area.
