WOW I would never want to leave such a wonderful room.

Onetomatoplant 01-09-2014 06:56 AM

Your space is beautiful - you did a fantastic job! We plan on finishing the basement to turn it into a work area for me and my husband, and we'll be using a lot of repurposed furniture. You gave me some really good ideas - thanks!

yourshortcake 01-09-2014 07:37 AM

I bet you can't wait! It is always nice to have your own space. Glad I could give some ideas. I just love looking at other people's work. You will have to post pictures for us to see when you are done.

I think I am hopeless. Your room looks so neat and organized but my sewing room has so much stuff in it, it could never look as neat as yours. Your China closet for instance, everything spaced so pretty, but if I had one like that, it would have things stacked on top of each other and squeezed in between things.....Oh how I drool when I see a room as neat as yours. Like I said, I guess I am a hopeless case. But I do have fun and lots of fabric and notions to play with! tee hee

Wow do you hire out to clean up others rooms and organize? This looks great I need to print the pictures and hang them in my mess of a room to inspire me to get it organized.

You did a Fabulous job!!

I agree about hanging pictures to get my room in shape. The colors are beautiful and so much light to work in.
Congratulations on all your hard work so far, keep us posted when you do more.

This weekends added storage

Just made these little storage jars out of Ragu sauce jars. Also a neighbor gave me a tv tray that I turned into a fold away ironing table for those small ironing projects. Added these to the sewing studio this weekend and finished a baby quilt.

Hey...new to the board here, but I have just completed my sewing studio. Most of the furniture was give to me free and I have refurbished. I use the china cabinet to organize magazines, patterns, notions, etc. My back wall cabinets hold fabrics, serger, craft supplies. My rear credenza is primarily used for embroidery work and storage. I keep cotton sewing threads in one of my thread boxes/canvas art and the other holds embroidery thread. My longarm quilter is in another room since I don't have the space for it. This is a work in progress as most studios are.

peachs 01-13-2014 03:46 PM

i love the tv-tray-to-ironing-board idea! do you have to cover it with anything special? or just layers of cotton(?) batting and a pretty fabric over it?

yourshortcake 01-13-2014 04:25 PM

I covered with 2 layers of low loft poly batting and 1 layer of cotton batting, then my fabric. I am not sure how long it will hold up to steam ironing, but it was free and I figured if I got a year or two use out of it, the little work would be worth it.

Wow - I love your studio - so bright and cheery - looks like a great room just to hang out in. I am sure you will do great things now that you are organized - good luck.

acesgame 01-13-2014 05:51 PM

Can we see pictures of your long arm room??

yourshortcake 01-14-2014 07:03 AM

My long arm is actually in the back portion of my living room. Not
much to it other than frame, machine and batting. I have to keep everything neat and tidy since all my work spaces are in public areas of my house.

Your room is beautiful!! I am in the process of moving my sewing room out of the guest room, a small room with a double bed taking up most of the room, and into the formal living room. Like you, I want my creative space to be beautiful as well as functional. In your china cabinet you have boxes and magazine storage that look like you covered yourself with fabric to match your room. Can you explain how you did it, or were you lucky enough to find them ready made? Thanks for sharing!

gramtam 01-14-2014 01:01 PM

Wow so pretty!!! Those are the colors I am going with as well!! thanks for the good ideas!! Have fun in your new Studio!!!

I love it! I'm a sucker for white white with colorful accents. And for great deals, free stuff, elbow grease, paint and repurposing.

Beautiful sewing room. I wouldn't mind having it to sew in. Sue
