Dining Room turned studio and thread storage

5 Attachment(s)
Hey...new to the board here, but I have just completed my sewing studio. Most of the furniture was give to me free and I have refurbished. I use the china cabinet to organize magazines, patterns, notions, etc. My back wall cabinets hold fabrics, serger, craft supplies. My rear credenza is primarily used for embroidery work and storage. I keep cotton sewing threads in one of my thread boxes/canvas art and the other holds embroidery thread. My longarm quilter is in another room since I don't have the space for it. This is a work in progress as most studios are.

This is beautiful!

quiltstringz 01-07-2014 09:07 AM

Wow - that is so pretty. Love the colors and the shabby chic look. It looks like you paid mega bucks an had a decorator do it. Guess this will make me want to clean my room up!

Thank you. Mostly free only cost me elbow grease and paint. It took about a year to put together, but worth it. Everything has its place. I even built my thread boxes, did the art work, built my shelf above, added under cabinet lighting. It has been a joy the past few months sewing in it. I have even managed to complete 4 baby quilts in the past 5 weeks.

Very pretty. Always amazes me at how some people have such talent to do things like this.

Cookie46 01-07-2014 09:57 PM

Beautiful sewing room!

zozee 01-07-2014 10:23 PM

Wow! That is eye candy to me! I love the turquoise and pops of pink going on, plus the crisp, clean white. It really must be such a treat to see and work in. I love the repetition of just a few dominant colors and the airiness of it all.

Your studio is absolutely beautiful, what fun you will have working in that gorgeous room. Love what your did with the furniture. So cute!

Stitch124 01-08-2014 05:16 AM

Love it!! I don't have the patience to paint and organize....I just threw furniture and tables in a room and started sewing. First time I've had my own sewing space....makes for a wonderful creative and happy place for me to go where I can just be me.

Oh what soothing colors you chose for your studio. I love what you have accomplished in your space. I would be in heaven sewing in a room like that.

Funny I got rid of a china hutch like that 25 years ago. Wish I had kept it now.

Laquilter44 01-08-2014 11:13 AM

Very Pretty! Love your colors!!

mariatherese 01-08-2014 11:14 AM

pegquilter8 01-08-2014 12:19 PM

Hee Hee Hee! Show us a picture in one year and let's see if it is still so neat. Kidding It is beautiful.

Cris 01-08-2014 12:22 PM

What a great room - so tidy and organized - love it!!

yourshortcake 01-08-2014 02:08 PM

Thank you. It took a year to put it all together. I just took my time. In addition to my love of quilting, I love all crafts including redoing furniture. I live in a house with a husband and 2 teen boys and finally wanted a space that was just mine. They don't go in the pink room :-)

Having your own space is an accomplishment. We all like to be creative even if it is on a dining room table. Keep being creative!

That china cabinet was given to me by a neighbor who had to foreclose on his estate. I helped him with an all weekend estate sale and he gave it to me as payment for my help. A little work, and it turned out beautiful. I love used furniture and repurposing it for a new use. Thank you for the kind words.

It does get messy when I am working on a project for sure, but being and staying organized makes for easy clean up. I have pushed out several quilts out of the space since December and luckily I have managed to keep it clean. I am sure one day, my fab stash may take over :-) Thank you.
