These are pictures of my small group of quilters and how they organized their fabric.. some of us went to help fold fabric and get it in order.. We get together once a month and spent 3 months on organization....

Color coded and organized doesn't it feel good? It looks so nice.

montanajan 11-25-2011 11:54 PM

I'm envious - of the stash & especially of the organization - looks great.

lisalovesquilting 11-26-2011 01:10 AM

They all look great. Thanks for the before pictures also. Well worth the time I'll bet.

BeverlyH 11-26-2011 01:20 AM

Just did mine too, feels great, doesn't it?

anniesews 11-26-2011 05:22 AM

Please come visit my sewing room. I always spend a lot of time geting everything in order then sew and make a big jumble of everything. I could use your organization skills.

Iggys Mom 11-26-2011 06:06 AM

What a wonderful gift you guys gave to this quilter. Time is most precious of all gifts and when you add in fabric folding. Well just something money won't buy. I know she must love you all.

Eliebelle 11-26-2011 07:04 AM

I did mine once and not as well as you did, now I want to do it again the RIGHT way!! Thanks for the inspiration - you did a BEAUTIFUL job!

Sallyflymi 11-26-2011 07:12 AM

Grandma Cindy 11-26-2011 07:13 AM

You ladies could travel the US and I would hire you first. Trip to Disney?

Quilting Dreamer 11-26-2011 07:32 AM

Ms. Anniesews: I seem to have the same problem. What's with that?

Kath12 11-26-2011 10:46 AM

I am in the process of moving my sewing room downstairs and had to empty the large fabric cupboard. Well, my 13 yr old GD came over yesterday and had a ball putting the fabric back in there all color coordinated and will do the same for all my threads when I get those racks mounted again. She loves to organize.

onaemtnest 11-26-2011 11:53 AM

The before and after pictures were so interesting to see, thank-you for sharing.

Last summer I took all my fabric and put on the comic boards...It is FANTASTIC! I used 350 comic boards anything over 6 yards I used two fabric boards folding from opposite directions. I didn't use the boards for anything less than one yard. Smaller pieces are now folded in drawers.

I was so surprised when I pulled fabric from the cabinets how much fabric I'd forgotten I had. I thought I had neatly folded and stacked but then stacks were in front of stacks and that's when fabrics got lost. I decided to donate fabrics that no longer were interesting to me.

Now it is much, much easier to shop my own stash and with the price of fabric I'm always so happy to have stash fabric that fits exactly what I need....well, sometimes. :0)

quilt crazee 11-26-2011 12:01 PM

love solutions! I NEED to organize!

EmbQuilt 11-26-2011 12:32 PM

Great job you ladies did for each other

Pieces2 11-26-2011 12:59 PM

Looks like its time to makes some quilts :0)

butterjoy 11-26-2011 01:28 PM

Oh my goodness!!!!! That is absolutely fantastic! I wish I could organize like that :)

KyKaren1949 11-26-2011 01:33 PM

I'm curious how this works with a group of quilters. Does the stash belong to everyone? IF so, how is it fairly divided among you all? It's fantastic how nicely it's organized!!

twixbar 11-26-2011 04:06 PM

Beautiful organization. Lots of fabric.

My time 11-26-2011 04:14 PM

So is this all your beautiful stash? I love how organized it looks. Anybody living in Phoenix Az want help organizing their stash let me know. I enjoy doing this. Plus I don't have a stash down here so it gives me an excuse to touch fabric and organize at the same time. Any other snowbird quilters down here?

slk350 11-26-2011 04:39 PM

Looks so nice all organized, Great Job...BUT it's not fair, they have a bigger stash than me !!! LOL Mine is in about 15 big clear plastic containers and 6 drawers in my closet.

sandiphi 11-26-2011 06:27 PM

That looks great. Now you can see all your fabric and it is easy to pick and choose your fabrics. I have the Polar Notions boards and boy what a difference. I know it would have been much cheaper to use the comic book boards but my studio is in the basement and I was told they may not hold up in the basement if it gets damp down there. I run a dehumidifier all year round, but didn't want to take the chance.

brendadawg 11-26-2011 07:53 PM

You are welcome at my house any time you want to come over and "play".

ann clare 11-26-2011 08:02 PM

Well done ladies.

me too. I will use some of these in my sewing room by Christmas.

lfstamper 11-26-2011 08:24 PM

Very nice job!

grandmajuki 11-26-2011 09:47 PM

We used no comic books or anything... we just used a 6x24 ruler to wrap fabric over and then fold in half..

grandmajuki 11-26-2011 09:52 PM

we folded over a 6x24" ruler then folded in half... this started by me asking what they pay for fabric... count it $10 a yard by the time you pay taxes... and the most money they spend is on fabric but it isn't treated very well, so figure out how you can treat it better and invest in getting it together. It's been interesting to see who did this and who didnt'

Thanks for all your comments.

kjohnson 11-26-2011 10:10 PM

Wow! I am so impressed.

Lisa Marie 11-27-2011 06:12 AM

I would love to have a stash like that! Right now I don't have that much fabric but what I do have I don't know how to organize and fold. Thanks for sharing.

pojo 11-27-2011 09:06 AM
