I purchase several CD wall units, they are just the right size for fat qrts or small pieces of yardage..Hung them on wall in front of my machine, it is handy and the colors of the qrts are very pretty.

I have fun opening every FQ and pressing flat! (also inspecting for true cut, real size and booboos) Got a much better impression of what I had. Sorting by color also helps me plan how to use each one. I gently fold over the color batch and alternate in the stack - put into a bin with a lid. Have had to reroute several to smaller pieces bin due to the fading on the exposed fold. :( I also refold large pieces frequently - I hate having to wash or steam to remove hard folds. :) Obviously, I like using FQ's!

Here's another fun idea: Apothecary Cabinet storage for FQs

Hi folks, I just started collecting fat quarters. I would like ideas about storage. I find stacking fabric is messy when pulling pieces for use. I don't want to take time to reorganize every time I pull a piece out. Thanks:D

I just finished my organization yesterday for anything I have less than a yard! I found great bins at Target and organized mostly by color and a few speciality bins (i.e. kids, food, Americana, Batik, etc). My mom and I make many charity quilts and people from our guild give us leftovers so we can use them up! This leads to needing a great organization system for small yardage so we don't lose our sanity! lol

Cubes from Walmart have worked for me. Husband bought them for something else and then didn't need them so they are mine now.

I use those plastic containers on wheels, with lids, from bargain stores. Some are just high enough to sit the fat quarters up on end - that is when one collects enough, and you can easily get at each piece. When one container is full the next one sits on top. Easily stored on shelves and you can see what fabrics you have.
