Has anyone tried this?
I want to get a piece of pegboard and paint it with blackboard paint so I can use a piece of chalk to outline everything I have hanging on it so it will be easier to keep things in the same place all the time. I hope this makes sense. And does anyone know if the blackboard paint comes in a spray can?
If anyone has done this, how did it work out? |
Haven't tried this, but it sounds like a great idea.
|
I have seen cans of blackboard paint and you could use a roller to put it on. My peg board has way too much stuff on it to work with an outline.
|
Sounds like a good idea if I only had a place for a pegboard.
|
I'm sure I've seen that kind of paint in a can. I sure wouldn't want to try to paint pegboard any other way. I did that one and the paint pooled in the holes.
|
Great idea....good luck with your idea. I've only seen the brush-on kind of black-board or chalk-board paint, but then I really haven't looked for it either.
|
I have done it in reverse for my tools. I have regular pegboard on my tool bench and used a black marker to outline tools so I would know where they were to be returned. Inside the drawers as well. Works well enough that picky brother liked it so much he went home and did it on his.

I haven't used the spray paint but I have used the brush on. I did the bottom half of a wall in the playroom for my grandkids. It works great ...except... it doesn't have the smooth surface that purchased chalk boards have. It is a bit rougher where an eraser only smears the chalk around instead of removing it. You have to use a damp cloth to clean it off. I put magnetic primer under it then 3 coats of the chalkboard paint. Since I put 3 coats of paint on top of the primer it isn't very strong to hold heaver magnets if you want to hang up paper or pictures etc. Also Lowe's has a brush on chalk board paint that you can tint to other colors that just black.

What a great hint. I sure could have used that when I switched quilting rooms.

Don't waste time painting and chalk outlining ..........just use the pegboard .....I have a wall of it and the hangings on it keep changing!

*** I saw once in a man's shop *** pegboard painted and then *** after deciding where things should go *** marked around with a magic marker. ***But be sure where you want things before marking. *** |
Yes you can buy chalkboard spray paint and you can usually buy it at Wal-Mart. Pretty easy to do. My Husband even cut some trim and put around the edges of mine. Painted them pink. Looks cute.

I haven't used blackboard paint. I had a friend hang his tools on pegboard in the garage. He outlined the tools with a sharpie
|
Great idea...
|
Just search on pinterest for home made chalkboard paint. There is a way to make it yourself pretty cheap.
|
Thanks for all the suggestions!! I'm glad to hear that there is a spray paint because canned paint and peg board doesn't work well together!
|
I like your idea, especially using the chalk so if you need to change your placements you can do so easily.
|
Great idea.

I have used pegboard, love it and yes chalkboard paint in spray cant remember if got it at lowes or home depot. do not buy at craft stores as it is quite a bit more expensive there. so get pegboard and spray at same store. on can it says chalkboard paint.

Looks like Home Depot carries this product....
Rust-Oleum Specialty 11 oz. Chalkboard Flat-Black Spray ... I moved 11 months ago and my peg boards STILL have not come down!! |
like somebody further up ^^^, I am going to just paint mine a lighter color
and use a Sharpie to do the outline. I've seen this idea on Pinterest for pots and pans,...wellll, everything I see is viewed through quilter's eyes, lol. :) |
Yep. It comes in a spray can. Used it on a chalk board for DD.
|
My neighbor does this, it is an awesome idea :)

Julia Child's (The French Chef) husband, Paul, did this for her kitchen. He outlined every pot, pan, lid and utensil. Loved the idea then, love the idea now. Thanks for the reminder to do this. Please make sure you post a picture when you get it done.

Tip for painting pegboard or other perforated surfaces with a roller - to clear out the paint film over the holes, just blow on it while it's still wet! Use your own lungpower for small jobs, or canned air for larger jobs. Works like a charm. :)

I don't even have peg board, but hoping someday to.
|
I bought and used a can of blackboard paint spray on last week. I sprayed a cookie sheet but not cork board.

Thanks for the responses. My husband hurt his back and won't allow me to use the power saw (probably a good thing about the power saw) so as soon as he's able to cut and frame the pegboard, I'll post pictures!!
