Probably every six months , give or take, I go through my stash. I purge and make notes of what I need colorwise. Or whenevr I feel my stash is controlling me rather than me controlling it.

Several months ago I folded all my fabrics (mostly FQ's and half yards) to same size and stacked them. Well, that didn't last long! I almost invariably needed something on the very bottom or near the bottom and the whole stack would get catty-wampus. Plus, not all my fabric fit on my shelves. So, I broke down and bought the comic boards. I cut almost all of them in half since most of my fabrics are less than a yard, left a few whole for the bigger pieces. Now, all of my fabric fits in their space and I can pull out the ones I need without messing everything else up. I am happier and I am spending way less time looking for or organizing fabric. I also spent time cutting my scraps to usable sizes and now I cut scraps while I'm cutting for a project or right after. Being organized helps me get more done!

Wow Snooze - one could go shopping for fabric in your sewing room. It looks so organized and neat.

I organize my fabric whenever I move. Although we are newly retired now so shouldn’t be moving any more, fingers crossed. I just organized. My fabric is in one large closet. I have everything in bins, organized and labelled by colour, batiks, Christmas, pre-cuts, backings, etc. My husband is handy and put in shelves so that no more than 2 bins are stacked, and the space is fully used. I need to do some scrap quilts, I hate to throw any even the smallest pieces, as the price per meter averages $14-16 in my area.

It took me 2 days to organize my quilting fabric / supplies in my tiny 1 bedroom apartment so I'm trying very hard not to have to do it again any time soon. So after each project is finished I spend the necessary time to deal with leftover scraps and put all tools used back to their proper places. It has made it so much easier when it's time for the next project.

My sewing room gets organized when I can’t take it anymore. For the rest of the House, I have a recipe card for each of the 12 months of the year & use that as the blueprint for occasional jobs that could get forgotten such as: January & July tip the mattress and box spring off the frame and vacuum under. Real Estate tax payment dates, estimate tax payment dates, etc. I used this method at work and it works for me.

For me it is a never ending battle. Clean it up then can’t find things... tear it up to find things... clean it up..a never ending circle

I'm really anal about my workspace (really, about my whole house..lol) so I organize at the end of each day with only current project out on cutting board. This last weekend I put all my fabric on mini bolt holders and I was so relieved. I don't have as much as most since I haven't been sewing long but the stacks of 100+ fabrics were driving me nuts.

Every time I do a project. I have to reorganize something in my sewing room. I guess if I have a empty space I will fill it something. And this isn't bad. It helps me keep thing under control in this room.

I ruler folded my fabric and organized it by color. The fat quarters and larger yardage are on separate shelves. They looked beautiful until recently. I'm getting ready to straighten them one color at a time. When I grab fabrics from the bottom, I sometimes scrunch the fabrics above them.i considered the comic board method, but the boards take up room that I can't give up.

I find the whole organizing thing challenging with fabric, notions, etc. I'm pretty organized but sometimes I get frustrated and re organize the fabric - especially when I'm working on a project, then I'm looking for more of that type of fabric, etc. I have my fabric in bins that pull out and organized by color/theme. For example, 1930's reproduction fabric, Civil War fabric and organize the colors.
