how tall are you and how tall is your cutting table?
thanks in advance :)
I am 5'3"-5"4". I found out a 36" table is too tall for me. Fortunately mine is adjustable and I found the 32" setting is just right.
I'm 5'8", and my cutting table is 35". I would like it to be a little taller, but its what I have. LOL It works for me. If I have a lot of cutting, I sometimes cut on the kitchen island.
I am 5'5" and my cutting and ironing table is 38" high. All my height is in my legs, though.

i'm 5-3, 5-4, I use my pub table dining room, it's easier on the back and neck
I always wondered this myself too, so thanks for thinking of the thread. I know I just took a class and their table was 32 inches high and it was perfect for me at 5ft 2.
Ergonomically speaking, the best height is two inches below your elbow when standing at the table.
I am 5'7" and my table is 36". I purchased my table from a LQS that went out of business. She sold all the furniture in there so I have her cutting table. It was 8' long but that was too big for my room so my DH cut about 3' off . Then he cut a hole in one end and made a platform to set my sewing machine in. So now when I do a quilt I have all this space for my quilt to be on instead of laying on the floor.
I am 5'4" and my cutting table is 37" the same height as my kitchen island. I found this to be a perfect height for me.
I am 5'9" and cut at my counter.
I'm 5'1" and mine is 29". I sometimes use the kitchen table if I'm cutting a lot or my workbench which is higher at 38". Just depends on my back's attitude.
I'm 5'1" and my table is 33 1/2" high .... a card table on risers, top covered with a piece of wall board that's approx 1" thick. I'm a "make do" kind of person !
I'm only 5' 2 1/2 inches tall. Just had a bone density test, so that is official. LOL My gateleg Dritz table is 34 inches tall. It is okay except when I cut beyond the center, then it is a little too tall. Unlike some of you I feel like I have no legs!!! I shorten petite length slacks.
I recently replaced the Dritz cutting mat with an Alvin mat. I think that's the right name. It was on QB post a while back. Yes they are a little stinky at first and pricey, but they are wonderful. Well worth the price and free shipping on my order. I don't recall the name of the company where I ordered. |
When I went shopping for a dinning table and chairs, I knew I would use it for cutting, pining, and layering, so I bought one that is 36" tall, with chairs that are 22" at the seat. I am 5"6.5' so it is ergonomically perfect for me since I am all body with short legs. ( Thank you daddy, mom had all the tall relatives....)
I'm exactly 5' and my table is 36"-no bending for my sore back. It's actually a dog grooming table with plywood top on bed risers for more hight.
I am 5'5" my table is 34".

I am 5'5" and I bought a kitchen table that fits my cutting mat

I am 5'2" and my table is 34 inches.

I am 5' & my cutting table is 35" high, would love it if it were 36 or 37 high. Then there would be less strain on my lower back.
Oh, by the way I am always barefoot at that.
35 1/2" tall and I am 5'8" My table is one of those 6' folding tables set up on two sets of bed risers. http://www.amazon.com/RISERS-Table-f...m/B000L3OHRS/2
I just love cutting up "outside" with the table on the screened in front porch. I have two large cutting mats that cover the entire table top. Since we live on the sound, the view is fabulous! |
5'6", 37.5 inches on rollers. It's perfect for me.
I am 5'9" tall. When I made my cutting table I used a piece of plywood and the folding table legs you can find at a hardware store. I went to the local Ace hardware store for help. They suggested that I raise the legs to the correct height by raising the legs by using lengths of pvc pipe cut the lengths needed to bring it up to a comfortable height. I couldn't believe how easy this project was. If I decide to use the table for a dinner, all I have to do is remove the pieces of pipe. I also put caps on the ends of the pipe.

Pub table??? OMG!!! What a great idea! I think I may move one from the game room to my sewing room office! I use the hot tub top to sandwich quilts in the summer, but it's too cold now for that. Thanks for your suggestion!

I'm 4' 11" tall, I have my cutting table at 32" so I can reach across if I need to but my ironing board (table I should say) is at 35". I made my own ironing table because I got tired of fighting with wide fabrics so it measures 72" long by 20" wide.
I am 5'10". My husband made my table and it is 38". Just right.

I am under 5 ft now and I read in an article that the best height for a table is about 2 inches below you elbow when you fold you arm at a 90 degree...that way you won't smash your elbow into it and it is also a great cutting height...I used to use my kids ping pong table but it started to hurt my back...the taller one felt strange at first ..now it is fine...

I am 4'11" tall and my cutting board fits on my adjustable ironing table. My BF and quilting partner is 6', so this works out great when we sew together

I'm 5' 6" and this stand we made is perfect. I used to use my kitchen counter for cutting but now I can do it here with my smaller cutting mat. It is 35.5" high.

I saw the 2" rule and found it interesting, so I measured and the table is approx. 5" below my elbow. When I'm holding the iron it seems to be the perfect height.

Finally another short person! I'm 4'11"also, but legs are short. I cut on 28" H dining table. Could stand another inch or two, but everything else is usually a little too tall for my stunted legs! LOL Always keep ironing board higher to prevent strain on the back.
I'm 6' in my stocking feet and my table is 35". For me, it seems to be a good height because I can push down while cutting. Maybe I am just used to things being low for me. I do take my shoes off when cutting or doing things in at the kitchen counter to put me down another inch or so.
I'm 5'-7" I have a kitchen counter top on base cabinets and the uppers also in my sewing room. The counter top is perfect. I bought a folding table at Joanns a few weeks ago and it is perfect for cutting and sandwiching quilts. No more aching back. I don't know how high they are and I have a longer body. My sewing room is now perfect for me. I can't really find a comfortable height chair, don't want a roll around chair. Too big and takes up too much room, would damage my hardwood floors over time. I use a wooden stool and take frequent breaks. I do side to side stretches and they help work out the kinks. I have a 2x4 foot long piece on a foam mat, that helps too.

Thanks everyone! I'm short-just about 5', so this gives me a great starting point.

I have an adjustable-height drafting table. It is made of awesome and rainbows. :-)
