I am going to do it!!!!!
I have used the third bedroom for a sewing room for 10 years. First it had a single bed in it than I moved that out. Our two sons live far away and we always travel to see them. Easier for us than it is for them to travel {each have three kids) to see us. I am going to take out the bed and furniture in the second bedroom and expand my sewing area. I am so excited. DH thinks its an awesome idea. When I brought it up to him last night he said " What took you so long to decide that?" If we have company we have a small guest house and a huge fifth wheel trailer for them to sleep in. I am going to put in a huge pressing table, design wall and have shelves to store everything. I going to have a top made to go over the pressing table so I can pin quilts on it. The pressing table will sit in the middle of the room so I can walk all the way around it. I work 7 days on and than have 7 days off. My first day off will be Wed. I have to get 4 quilts ready for a quilt show on Friday. So I will have most of Thursday to get working on this. We will get home Sunday night, so that leaves me with Mon-Wed. to get it finished. I hope by the time I go back to work Wed. night that I will have most of it done. Will post pictures when both rooms are done. I am so excited. DH said he would make a door between the two rooms, but I said no, I need the wall space and the walking will do me good. I will keep a small ironing board in the main sewing room to press seams as I sew. Thanks for letting me share my excitement. I want to start tonight when I get home, but know that will not happen.

I'll be watching!!!!

Sounds like a great plan. Be sure to post pictures of the transformation.

Good for you!! You won't regret it.
Congrats!!! Enjoy!!!!
Lucky gal....can't wait to see the finished room....enjoy!!!
thanks everyone. I just ordered the shelves to go under the pressing table. They won't be here till the 16th but can get the rest ready to go. It will be so nice to get organized again and have lots of room. I am really glad DH retired cause he can work on shelves while I am at work. :0)

Great plan ... and made better with your DH being all for it and ready to do some of the work!
Continue with your plans and be sure to include anything and everything your little ♥ desires! ............. and then some! :D |
Congrats on using your home to the best advantage. I took over the third bedroom for my 10 ft. frame and Mega-quilter by Viking.....at the suggestion of my DH. I haven't had a moment of regret. We pay so much for our homes we might as well use every bit of space according to our individual lifestyles. ;-)

congrats and enjoy your new space...

Smart Woman!! Do it!! Quickly..... and keep us posted on your progress as you are doing this. We want to celebrate with you for your new space as it is happening. Just tell us every couple of days what you finished doing, and then put pictures of the new changes as they are happening. The process is just as important as the finished product, right?!! Do you know other quilters who are local to you, and can you invite them to celebrate your success in making this new studio?? Perhaps a "girlfriend's tea party" for them? I believe in your dreams!

Congrats on your new plans! Keep us posted on your progress!

Sounds so exciting.... can't wait to see the progression of your new sewing room. Hoping you will keep us updated

I will post pictures Wed. :0{ Be prepared. While we are in Twin Falls for the quilt show I can pick up items I need to finish the rooms. Will keep you posted. Both full size beds have been given away and will be picked up Wed. One less thing to have to deal with. While doing this I am going to paint the desk my one sewing machine sits in. Might just as well make both rooms look fresh and clean. Might even be able to get DH to make frames for my antique quilt blocks from my GGM so I can hang them on the walls. Also going to have him make a ladder to put quilts on. Oh dear me. I may have to take over the master bedroom too.

Good for you! It sounds like it's going to be a fabulous, functional space. Please post pics when you've finished (or even before and after pics)
I vote knock out the wall between the two rooms! You didn't ask for advise so ignore it.
Very exciting!! Will be keeping an eye out for your new space.
I LOVE it when a plan comes together! Show pictures when you can :)
Good luck to you. Enjoy the new room. I have two sewing rooms as well and left them that way. I needed the wall space as well. Doesn't hurt me to walk from room to room.
Will be waiting to see your pics. You are going to need a rest by the time you go back to work.
Very excited for you!! Can't wait to see it!
Great for you. I'm still working on mine. Everything takes me a while, I get side-tracked. Darn STML.
I'm excited for you. Having your own sewing room is so nice.
I vote for a door on one side of the room or the other! Ignore me and have lots of fun in your new space!
Congrats to you. Will you be posting pictures so we will have something to drool over?
It would not have taken me that long to take over this last room. I would have started the moment he walked out with the last item. Our oldest Granddaughter has moved out and I took over her room the very next day.
I just expanded into my "second" sewing room in February, so I know how excited you are! While I adore having this second room, some day my dream is to have EVERYTHING in one room, lol.
Your project sounds great!! I did that a few years ago( when kids were gone) then got grandkid and he just moved to his own house..when he came he dumped my stuff and it really got to be a mess for awhile.. then friends came for a day and we moved everything to the bottom floor of our house..so good but I never get it all clean anymore. my scraps are taking over again..(sounds neg. today..maybe because we are getting lots of snow again) I love the snow but sometimes enough is enough already :0..we need more green! Happy sewing!
Lucky girl! Can't wait to see the pics.
Good for you. I don't have a room especially for quilting but I recently took over a small part of the sunroom for my sewing machine, ironing board and cutting table. I put up a shelf in the dining room for all of my fabrics. better than having it stored in various tubs. post photos when you are done :)
Post pics when you get the room finished. I am excited for you.
I think it sounds like a great idea - I live in a two roomed flat with a bathroom/laundry, and I use the whole lot to sew in as well...lol!
Sounds terrific!
I have 2 small rooms, one being the FORMER dining room which is 8'7"x7'2" and my youngest daughters former bedroom which is my fabric room. Since we only live in a 2 bedroom condo and I have NO living room furniture I am assured that I can't and don't get overnight guests. I learned long ago that it is just easier NOT to have overnight guests because they "complain" about my cats. Which I am trul sorry they have issues, but it is my cats HOME not theirs. |
Sounds like you have a great plan you are putting together! It will be a wonderful space for you to create in.
Good for you.. Is it ok if I am a little jealous since I lost mine sewing room :)
How great for you. Sounds like you have a good place for a retreat-let the quilters stay in the guest house and fifth wheel. Sounds like fun, fun.
Ms. nygal, I would like to know the name of your quilt in your avatar and did you make it......or is it a quilt in a show? To me it looks difficult; nice colors I like it.
