I had some time and some scraps....

As you can tell from my before pictures, it's easy to understand why I couldn't find anything! So I took out my scraps and made an organizer that holds my stabilizer, mini iron, blades, needles and Elmer's glue.Moved the computer and brought in a second table so my Singer 160 had a home, put new grippies on both foot peddles ( they don't budge!) Moved the printer stand and book case into the closet, finished an orphan block into a wall hanging and made new pin cushion/thread catchers for both machines and shortened the curtains so they don't hang on the heat register....WHEW!!! Oh and I added padding and made a new cover for my seat..tufting is not easy by yourself. Now that's done I have some projects to finish up :)

This is great. Nice set up

TinkerQuilts 02-16-2013 10:49 AM

So with a little effort, my room could look like yours?

Not likely.

Your room looks VERY nice - great place to sew, quilt, embroider, etc, and I love the organizer!

DonnaC 02-16-2013 12:07 PM

Love your Singer 160... I have one too. She's great!

Do you mind my asking - is your sewing table (the one with the white machine) this one that Wal-Mart sells?

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sauder-Sew...ishes/15690337

I've been wondering about that table...if yours is the same one, can you offer any details? Is it really heavy? (I would have to move it upstairs to my sewing room; I think it comes in pieces so that would be do-able.) Do the wheels roll easily?

tjk829 02-16-2013 12:56 PM

The table is indeed from Walmart and I didn't think the pieces were too heavy. I had it delivered and was able to bring it in and assemble it by myself and it rolled really easily to the sewing room. I am planning to buy another and give my Singer her very own. I really like the table it doesn't shake even at high speed and the organizer cubbies hold everything within reach. I think it's a good deal for the price I really couldn't afford a thousand dollar sewing table and this works for me. I quilt and embroider with that machine and have never had stability issues.

tjk829 02-16-2013 12:59 PM

The chair back is actually my sewing machine cover but it hangs so nice on the back of the chair when I'm sewing and anyone that enters can read the embroidery piece that says " any day spent sewing is a good day" Makes me smile every time!

Your room is wonderful. I also have the sewing table from Walmart. I agree it is very sturdy and I use it the same as you for embroidery and quilting. Very pleased with it.

Thanks so much for the info about the table! I noticed yesterday that it's marked down to $99. I might just have to order one.. I think it would be great in my sewing room too.

Wow you just inspired me to get off the computer and on to organize my new studio area!!! I got a commercial embroidery machine and still need to get it "settled into" a comfy spot that works for me!!! thanks for the inspiration. Also where did you get the pattern for the stabilizer organizer?? That is soooo cute!!

craftiladi 02-17-2013 12:16 PM

Nice lay out-nice job!

LUANNH 02-17-2013 04:19 PM

Love the room, could you please post a close up of your organizer that you made? Looks like it might be just what I need. Thanks

Here's the close up of the organizer, I apologize for the poor quality, new phone and it takes crappy pictures but I think you can see a few details. I didn't have a pattern. I laid out the stuff I wanted to store , cut the fabric to fit, quilted it and added vinyl pockets to hold the stuff. The vinyl was 97cents a yard and I edged it with double fold bias tape. The whole thing took maybe a couple hours.

Wow, what a lovely play to spend the day, the night or just some time with your passion for sewing. Cleaning and organizing is so refreshing.....even for us who are just outside viewing your good efforts. You are an inspiration.

LUANNH 02-18-2013 06:48 AM

Thank you for the close up of the organizer, will work on one for my room. Wish my room was as organized as yours, want to come down and help do mine, it's warm down here. LOL

gramquilter2 02-18-2013 07:08 AM

Beautiful room and well set up.

tjk829 02-18-2013 10:33 AM

One other nore, make sure to allow for your pockets to expand, I didn't and you can see how the mini iron pulls the fabric out of shape. Not enough of a bother for me to redo it, but annoying that I didn't think about itwhen I was making it.

Painiacs 02-21-2013 09:36 PM

Wow! Those are some awesome looking machines! Mine are the basics!!
