Look what I did all by myself

We had this shelving unit in the attic, so I commandeered it for my own. After getting it out of the attic, which was no small job. Thank goodness when I put it there, I had made it 2 pieces. So, I washed it down, rearranged the shelves to accommodate my brand new roll of warm and natural, used an old shower rod to hold the batting. Then hung it by the chains. My only cost was the 2 clips holding it to the upper shelf and the chain. All for less than $15.00. Pretty proud of myself, but tired. So much for sewing today :)

You had a smart idea, that is great.

Mariposa 09-04-2013 12:11 PM

Great idea! :)

owlvamp 09-04-2013 12:15 PM

Looks good and awesome idea.

quilter1 09-04-2013 12:43 PM

Brilliant! I just might copy your idea.

paulswalia 09-04-2013 01:04 PM

Hey - I've got one of those shelving units......hmmm......might have to copy this idea. Thanks for sharing!

Lori S 09-04-2013 01:04 PM

I like your method of supporting the roll of warm and natural. Thanks for posting ! I now have a way to hang mine.

Akweiland 09-04-2013 02:05 PM

Genius! I have a batting roll...hmmm... Ideas rolling around in my brain! Thank you for sharing and great job.

Blue Bell 09-04-2013 02:08 PM

Way to go, Girl!

wolph33 09-04-2013 02:10 PM

great idea for the batting even better that you already had the shelf

hcarpanini 09-04-2013 02:10 PM

How are you going to measure and cut? Love this idea but not the thought of taking off and on. Hope you have a secret!

tessagin 09-04-2013 02:12 PM

Great idea and you already had the biggest part.

Neesie 09-04-2013 02:14 PM

Brilliant! I especially love the way you hung the batting!!! I need to do something like that, instead of just cramming it onto the top of my shelving.

tessagin 09-04-2013 02:19 PM

Shouldn't be too hard to pull the amount of batting you need. Just keep a tape measure handy right at the dowel with a yard stick and cut straight across. Super idea.

Tartan 09-04-2013 02:41 PM

Sweeee-eeeet! If you clamp a piece of wood across the whole front of the shelf just below the shelf above the batt, it will kind of be like a big foil or waxed paper box. You can roll the edge of the batt up over the wood and through the space to hang down a little. Tape a tape measure to the one side of the shelving unit down to the floor. You can them pull down how much you need by the tape measure and trim it off up at the wood for a nice straight edge.

The roll isn't that much taller than the bed in our guest room. I plan to roll it off onto the bed, then cut.

Very nice idea - - thanks for sharing.

quiltsRfun 09-04-2013 03:22 PM

Great idea! I've been looking for a way to store the bolt of batting I recently bought. Thanks for sharing.

Misty's Mom 09-04-2013 03:27 PM

Way to go, spunky girl! :-)

Podunk Princess 09-04-2013 07:44 PM

All of my fabric is stored on a set of 4 of these shelving units (on wheels) in my studio. I may have to clear off a couple of shelves and make room for a roll of batting. I have wanted to purchase a roll but couldn't figure out how to store it where it would stay clean and be easy to get to. Thanks for sharing your idea.

mighty 09-04-2013 07:52 PM

Now that is really cool!!!

Nilla 09-05-2013 01:42 AM

That's a clever idea! I've thought about just purchasing a whole roll of batting, but I've held off because I didn't want it just stacked in the corner of a closet. I agree this would make it so much easier to measure. Hmm, you've given me something to think about....

omacookie 09-05-2013 01:47 AM

NEVER underestimate the power of a woman !Hugs

Cindy60545 09-05-2013 03:04 AM

sure do like this idea! Now, where to put it??

WickedQuilta 09-05-2013 04:26 AM

that is such an awesome idea! I've been dreaming of a better way to get the batting off the roll--now, wait a few years for the kids to grow up and move out, clean the basement and reclaim one of those shelving units and I'll be all set! thanks for sharing!

sparkys_mom 09-05-2013 04:27 AM

Love that idea for the batting.

That's what my LQS does. No heavy lifting needed after once getting the roll in place.

Good idea, now back to my drawing board for improvements :)

Thanks so much for sharing this idea. I have been trying to figure out a way to better handle my roll of batting. Now to get some good shelves and hubby to help.
