I like her command center. I think that would be wonderful to have in my office and then everything would be out of sight if not in use.

I have a kitchen island from IKEA and love it! It has 12 drawers and a butcher block top ..... my best investment so far for the sewing studio!

Anyone have anything else to add? We are still in limbo on this project. Because of the small hallway leading to the spare bedroom, we can't fit the 90" pantry units into the room ( from Home Depot). So now we're seriously looking at the Pax wardrobes with shelves again. I'll feel so much better about downsizing to this space once this is all set. Gotta have room for the supplies for all of the magic!

I love Ikea. In my room I have two Expedite shelves and a Dombas wardrobe. I have a problem with the wardrobe, it's the first time Ikea has ever failed me, but there are supposed to be three doors, and whoever drilled the holes for the brackets didn't take into account that the panel in the middle needed to be offset...hard to explain. I can only have either the double set of doors on, or the single. I don't have any, but I'm pretty much the only one who goes in there besides my daughter, so nothing needs hidden away.

That said, I have had PAX wardrobes before and I loved them. Very sturdy, loads of customize options and if you get tired of something, it's easy to switch it out. Billy has great bookcases, they have doors and height extensions if you need/want them. I'm currently using a Hemnes dresser in my entry, hides all the bits of stuff that need stored out of sight (gloves, scarves, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, five million candles) and it's holding up great considering the amount of use it gets in a day.

I also have Trofast in the kids rooms. They're teenagers now, but they've had them since they were small. I just switched the drawers out for the newer more "mature" colors and added the shelves you can get. I've painted them too since bare wood was the only option when I bought them.

Ivar is my bookcase in my office, I have a bazillion books, so I bought the deep shelves and high end pieces. That holds up better than any bookcase considering the amount of weight I've got on there. But there are options for cupboards and pull out drawers on those, and they can be painted/stained to match whatever you want.

I heart Ikea, and whenever I have an organizing problem my husband just sighs and says, "we're going to Ikea aren't we?" It's only a five hour drive. LOL

No problem. Just remember to look in all the areas of the store. I found some kid sized wardrobes that I was originally going to use in the entry, but they were out, hence the dresser. They make all sorts of great cabinets, carts and so on for all the rooms though. Like my office shelves are supposed to be utility shelves (garage, storage) but I have them in the house. I forgot to mention, I have the Gorm shelves, super cheap, but visit that section since that's usually where they keep those handy baskets that slide onto shelves and such. They fit on all my bookcases and I use them on my closet shelves too, not the kind with the rod, just plain shelves.

I have the IKEA Trofast with the bins. I have 2 tall and one short unit. I purchased these while living in Shanghai and brought them home with me. I have my fabric pretty well organized with squares from 2" to 6" and fat quarters, eighths and sixteenths all arranged in different bins. I rarely by fabric by the yard, usually just fat quarters since I make mostly scrap quilts. Each bin is labeled and makes it really easy to get started with a project.

I have the Ikea cabinets and love them. I have two tall units with 3 stationary selfs and three pull out drawers in each. I have the frosted glass doors on each Cabinet and there is two doors on each. In the middle of these two cabinets I have a thinner cabinet (just as tall as other two) and I chose the mirror door. Inside that cabinet there are 8 pull our baskets and each is removable easy if you want to look for something specific. i have elastic, thread, velcro, lace, zippers, bias tape, trims, tools, patterns, and more in the baskets. These units are on one wall in my sewing room. I just love them. Before I had all these bins and It took me longer to find what I wanted then it did to cut the project out. My sewing room has also turned out to be from IKEA - not by design but because they had the things I needed. When the folding table I was using became warped from the heat and weight of my embroidery machine we found this desk at IKEA. The extension table is working out well and it does slide under the desk when not in use. It is sturdy enough to hold a standard machine or serger. The storage units in the second picture we found at IKEA also and despite my initial reservations they have worked out well for me.

The one thing to keep in mind about the PAX wardrobe is that it is very deep (23+ inches). This does not work well if you want to stand your fabric on end like books because of the depth of the cabinet. I bought this and the Stuva storage combination and drawers. I ruler fold my fabric about 1 inch shorter than the depth of the cabinet and then stack them. Makes it a littler harder to get one out but I can still see all by fabric.

The plus side of the depth is that you can put bins with projects in the cabinets - and the ability to set it up like you want. In the PAX I have 3 wire baskets at the bottom and 5 shelves above. The Stuva has 2 deep drawers at the bottom and 4 shelves above.

how deep are they? I've looked at the Ikea billy stuff but it isn't very deep. I'm looking for something to put finished quilts in. Glass front ;) They are so pretty stacked up.

I wouldn't store fabric or quilts in glass fronted cabinets. I can't tell you the amount of fabric I've been given or purchased through estate sales that has bleaching or fading around the folds of the fabric from being stored in areas that get light. The best place for quilts and fabric storage is in cabinets that do NOT let light through.

I've had friends tell me that this sometimes happens just because of the quality of the fabric too not just due to sunlight. I can tell you construction paper can sure fade fast on our school bulletin boards. I know it's not the same thing but it is amazing.

I'm in the process of picking out IKEA furniture for a new sewing space too!

I'm looking at the BESTA storage series at this point. Little deeper than Billy (which was my first go-to, I love those things!) and I can get drawer sets as well as cupboard door sets. I'm taking over our livingroom as my new space so I want things to go behind doors and drawers as much as possible. It comes in a lot of different sizes and has lots of possibilities.

I'm also looking into the PAX wardrobes...nice and tall, which means if I cover the doors with flannel I could use them as my design wall. Not ideal, but probably best place I'll find for a design wall in that room without sacrificing a lot of space that could be used for storage.

But I still haven't settled on anything yet. I'm going there this Sunday to play around with stuff and take some in-person measurements on things.

In my current sewing room, I have the Grundtal rails and hooks for my scissors and rulers right above my cutting table - LOVE IT. I have 2 (which I will move to the new space) and I'm going to buy at least 2 more rails and 4x more hooks.

I recently bought the Stuva System from IKEA. It was super easy to put together. I bought three six drawer units. Each unit has four medium drawers and two larger bottom drawers. I store my fat quarters by color. I love them. It is perfect. I put them in my closet.

I just re-read your original post again and noticed this part - we had PAX wardrobes in our prior house, actually used them as our closets. They held up great; we used them probably 4 years before we moved and they were still in excellent condition when we sold the house. We were going to take them with us but the buyer cut a deal to include them with the house. We had two wide ones with clothing rail on top and 2 or 3 drawers each in the bottom (I can't remember how many drawers, now); and then we had a narrow one in between filled with shelves that held all our linens.

Last night I finally made my decision and I'm going to buy PAX again for my new sewing space. I can fit FOUR of the wide cabinets along one wall, and I'm getting the tallest ones. Going to cover the whole face of it with flannel so I'll have a design wall about 13 feet long and just shy of 8 feet tall. Much bigger than the 72" square space I have now! I can't wait...I'm going to have SO MUCH STORAGE!

Sewnona, we're going with the Pax as well. We are getting the taller option. Eventually, our son will put crown above it so it should look like a built in. I'm going to work out the room on graph paper this weekend. I'm excited and can't wait to get it done.

Most of the bins in the corner unit were plastic storage bins from Joann's a few years ago. They have snap on lids and stack on top of each other. The other storage bins are just misc. tins and baskets that I had lying around the house. (I ten to collect covered baskets, like picnic baskets, etc., when I'm our yard-saling. I like to use things like that for storage.

This was a cloth-covered desk chair that I got at a yard sale for $1. There were stains on the cloth seat, so I decided to cover it with selvages. I removed the seat from the chair and cut a piece of muslin bigger than the seat. I then sewed selvage strips to the muslin. I pulled the muslin/selvage strip piece tightly around the seat bottom and stapled and glued it to the bottom of the seat. Then re-attached the seat to the chair.

We put IKEA furniture in our basement for hubby's clothes. He has a bathroom down there and it's just easier for him to have his clothes there as well so he doesn't have to go up and down stairs. Anyway, we are very pleased with the furniture. It looks good and serves the purpose.

Wow, ladies, great chairs. As soon as I have my report cards done, I'll have to take a closer look at my sewing chair. (By the way, it''s pure torture working on report cards in my sewing space). I'll visit Pinterest after they are done, too. I know I can get lost there.
