My new sewing area

Previously, I had an old typewriter table for my sewing machine and some kind of table for my serger that I found at G'Will or someplace. I finally made this layout from a photo I had seen. And I was on a budget. The tables are standard 2 x 4's which I painted which my neighbor put together for me. He also made the tables for me to my height specification. We found Bamboo flooring at the RESTORE (one box open, one box unopened) and from that he made my table top. He said he could make table tops from it, so I bought them.

I found the Sterilite containers at WALMART under the desks - 3 drawer, marked down AFTER the 'back to school' rush last year. I got the blue hue so the contents was somewhat hidden. I store most of my fabric stash in those container, they really do the job. I do have a chair, of course, but removed it for the photos. I hung cross stitch and certificates on the wall. I've had some of that cross stitch for ages. I am hoping to make a wall quilt soon for the very right wall. I have a kitty that loves to sit by the windows. He has a special box covered in fleece that he sits in to sleep and look out the window....

I have a small house and limited storage. I try to keep "clutter" down so as to keep the room looking tidy. I have a large, very large, very wide bookcase on the wall you cannot see and that really helps too. Enjoy the photos!

Very calm and uncluttered. You must enjoy sewing in your beautiful space! Congratulations!

Great idea for tabletops. I like the blue color of the storage units. Looks like aquariums under there.

Sandygirl 08-18-2014 02:11 AM

Beautiful and perfect! I esp love your L shaped table. Are you in a farmhouse? I am; our doors are exactly like your door. And yes, the windows are wonderful. One of my fav spaces....yours!

In my world that would be considered a large room. Good job with the organization job

cookiemonster 08-18-2014 04:46 AM

Well organized with the boxes under counter. Nice job! You'll enjoy your time away from the household bussle.

Lafpeaches 08-18-2014 04:53 AM

Very nice. I like your set up and neatness. I have a big room and not tidy at all. I am no decorator. My living room looks nice after suggestions from my sister. I should have her come from downstate and help me set up my sewing room better.

Nammie to 7 08-18-2014 05:06 AM

Love your sewing space and all that natural light. I have see through containers in my sewing room also. Mine are clear but doesn't matter as long as I can see the contents. Great ideas from your room.

Not a farm house. Just a small 2 bdrm house in the city limits (Kannapolis, NC) just north of Charlotte NC. The house was built in the 50's and back then they used real wood for doors. They are lovely. I had to remove all paint from the doorknob backing. Glass knobs themselves weren't painted, but had paint splattered on the back side...but still it was a job!! Luckily the knobs are separate from the back frame. I love the keys!! Not the original ones however. I also replaced the painted door hinges. I don't care for paint over switches, hinges, doorknobs, etc.
Thanks for the reminder that I do have special doors!!

What a difference between the before and after. Just goes to show, creativity plus hard work make a great space. Love that your neighbor was so helpful, I have a neighbor that is a lot the same.

It's a PFAFF CREATIVE PERFORMANCE. Bought in summer of 2013. My old machine, my Bernina 830 still runs strong purchased in 1980, but now I use the C.P. unit.

Sandy, I sent you a photo of my doors w. my doorknobs that have been renovated. Alas, it got buried below. Somehow the photo did not attach to your post. Page down and you will see my answer about the doors (not a farmhouse)....
