My Newly Furnished & Re Organized Sewing Space
2 Attachment(s)
My incredible wonderful hubby helped me create my dream sewing space!! I am thrilled with the results! He built my cutting table which is now the perfect height for me. I no longer have to lean down for cutting tasks. I have a very sensitive lower back so leaning over for me even a teeny bit is very painful and brings a screeching halt to my days' work in my sewing room. My drawer units are repurposed, I used to have them stacked on top of each other. Now, there is one on each side of my cutting table holding all my supplies, patterns, notions etc etc. The table top is framed by a nice edging which no longer allows my marking pens to roll off the table! YAY!! It is 4 ft by 5 ft.
My Sewing table is 11 ft long with 4 drawer units from Ikea. They are the Alex drawer units. The table top is 2 tabletops from Ikea, all pre finished. They worked perfectly on top of the drawer units!! The sewing table is pretty close to the perfect height. It allows me to move a machine or two and work on my quilts when I am quilting them. I LOVE the drawer units! A big bonus was choosing to go with all white. My old sewing tables were dark walnut finish. I was so amazed when I sat down to my white sewing table.. it reflects the light from my window so I benefit twice from my window....if that makes sense! I only have to re paint the walls and put up some shelves for my doll collection and I am totally done! I couldn't be more thrilled and... I have the most awesome incredible wonderful hubby in the world...:thumbup::thumbup: even before he created my dream sewing space!! ♥♥♥ |
What a wonderful place to create!

LOVE IT! I'm curious about the last photo, how did you put that together (cutting table) and love the bins and the colors! The nearest IKEA to me is 2.5 hrs away but am willing to learn! Enjoy your great creative room!

Looks like a great place to spend time. Your layout looks very easy to use. What color are you going to paint the walls?

Love your room!

quiltnut4ever: The cutting table/workstation is simply 2 - 4'x8' sheets of pre finished MDF, and the 2 sets of cubicles and fabric baskets are from Home Depot. Also, forgot to mention that there are beefy 3" wheels under the table so I can roll it around the room. :D Because we cut the sheets down to 5ft, we added the trim along the edges, which as I mentioned serves a dual purpose, hiding the unfinished edge and also nothing rolls off the table anymore!! This is a rather large piece in my room, but since I only have my sewing table and a small cute computer desk,.. lol I chose to make it larger than the average cutting table size.. and I LOVE it!! I plan to add some hooks to hang my rulers etc on along the sides of the cubbies.
My Sewing table has all the IKEA components, counter tops and drawer units. I have seen some people use the IKEA Kitchen Island workstations as cutting tables. When I looked at those I determined I would need 2 of these..if I remember correctly, they were in excess of $300 each. As I was searching for all white components that didn't work for me, coupled with the price. Also, some people use the unfinished dressers from IKEA as the base for their cutting tables. Thank you again everyone for your kind remarks. I did a ton of google searches and Pinterest pins on sewing room spaces. There are tons of great ideas out there and even some tutorials on how to build them. This particular unit was the one I chose slightly modified from others ones I saw.

Thanks again everyone! I feel like I am in a professional sewing studio now! LOL In a few weeks we'll be painting the room and adding the shelves for my doll collection etc. As my favorite color is pink I am painting the walls a very pale shade or pink. I can hardly wait!!
And, yes My Time.. I am one very lucky duckie.. hence my signature line... I am Blessed by the Best!! |
Love it! So happy for you. ENJOY!
Love your sewing stations with all those drawers, wow.
Thank you so much for posting your pictures!! I'm moving into a new space, and I'm going to bookmark your pictures for definite possibilities!!
wow love the way you have your machines set up.
This is wonderful and such a great space!
I especially like the setup of the 3 machines in front of the window - that's a very smart layout!
I went through many different room layouts before I settled upon this one.... Ultimately, I decided one long sewing space would give me the ultimate amount of space for whatever I am working on. As none of my machines are set into a table I can easily remove one of them for added space when quilting or embroidering.
Thank you again for all your nice compliments. |
Looks wonderful. Enjoy and know that there are those of us who are just a tad jealous! :)
very nice//
Thanks for sharing. Looks amazing! I'm hoping to have my own sewing room one day, nothing like pulling everything out to put it away in the evening to take it back out.
Enjoy creating in your beautiful sewing room. Don't see your stash.
I love everything about it. Your hubby did an awesome job! I have a sensitive back too and, like you said, even a few inches added to the height of the cutting table makes all the difference in the world.
Where did you get your five drawer storage units under your sewing table? I love them.
Metrogirl
The 5 drawer cabinets are from IKEA. They are the Alex drawer units. |
