I store most fabric in a dresser drawer this way. two more drawers with color "files" and a 4th one (not photographed) that houses assorted home dec/apparel/craft fabric and accesssories some Art Bins with WIPs (Works in Progress) plus some oddball stuff I have yet to hang my design wall, but so far it works just propped against the wall. My favorite toy:) Janome Horizon 8200 I used turquoise scrapbook paper, black and white ribbon, and black and white labels to set up a scrap system that works for me. |

This painting inspired the colors of my sewing room. My grandmother used to sing "His Eye is on the Sparrow" all the time when I was a girl. She was also the grandma who played dolls with me, made doll quilts, and let me choose whatever dolls I wanted to keep when she was in the nursing home. I think of her often when I'm sewing. My ironing table sits at the same level as my sewing machine, so all I do is swivel back and forth to build blocks. :) I do have to get up for cutting large pieces at the cutting table, but that's good. I need to stretch. My machine sits in front of the window, so I get a bird's eye view of the street and I can eavesdrop on the neighbors down there. I'm not nosy, just ....um...observant. That's it. Observant! True confession--the adjacent bedroom contains a dresser with a bit of yardage and stuff that I haven't decided what to do with it. It won't get to come back into the Happy Place until it's been properly vetted. :) Hope you enjoyed the little tour of where I love to let the world go by. |
The Singer 15-91 in the cabinet at the foot of the bed is named Kathryn, for the grandmother who inspired me to sew.

Very nice!
Zozee, you have a very nice set up in your studio/ napping room of ones own!
peace |
Thanks. I don't understand why the pictures in the latter posts come up saying "attachment" when the preview showed the pictures before I published?
I love your lampshade. Looks like you made it from selvages. What a great idea!
Zozee-You have a beautiful sewing room, and a nice place to nap!
That's a great looking sewing room. No wonder it is your happy place. I like how you labeled your boxes for scraps. That's a fantastic looking sewing machine!
A lovely and welcoming room.
Very nice "happy place." enjoy!
What a great grab of space for your sewing room. I would never want to leave...and like you, I listen to music all the while I am in my sewing space. Thank you for sharing.
Very nicely done! And so neat and tidy! If only....
I absolutely love your sewing space. The color of your walls reminds me of the color I've chosen, "Meringue" with the white trim. This is similar to what I want to accomplish with mine. Thanks for showing. One question though do you send your quilts out to a long armer or do you quilt them yourself and where?
Tessagin, thanks. This paint color is (I think) either Banana Custard or Coconut Custard (something like that--very pale yellow) by Behr (Home Depot). The room colors are completely different from the ones in the rest of my house (which are earth tones) and the girliest of all rooms in my male-dominated house!
I haven't made a quilt larger than about 65x72 or thereabouts, so haven't needed a longarmer. I bought this machine for its 11" throat, which handles that size like a dream, and I have no doubt it could handle larger. |
I love and need a sewing table like yours for my big Bernina. Do you know what brand it is?
Such a beautiful room. It would be my happy place too. Thanks for sharing with us
Nice sewing areas and organization.

Very nice (and happy) space. It's like this because my out-of-town sister came as an overnight guest. I wanted her to sleep well:) That wouldn't have been possible if I hadn't taken some drastic measures! She said the room was really "cute" and --best of all--she slept for 10 hours straight! |
LOL....when my sister came I asked which bed she wanted to sleep in and I would clean up that room...Lucky me she chose the least cluttered of the two...just had a quilt in rows on the bed...and no I don't sew in either one.....and got the top pieced except for borders before she came...icing on the cake was that after sharing my finishes I had inspired her to get more done...wow score one for the younger sister....

Nice sewing room, so neat
I can see this is indeed a happy place. It looks so warm and inviting. You are a lucky girl.

OH, and there's a reason I didn't show you the closet with doors OPEN! Ahem!
Funny story: my youngest sister (37) and her family just moved into a new house. We got a tour of it this past Sunday, and her 3 year old daughter, my sweet precious niece, was kind of taking the lead as tour guide. When we got to the master bedroom, my sister says, "And this is our closet." "It's a monster closet!" I exclaimed, seeing the size of the walk-in. Poor little J looks up at me with a half-scared, half let-me-set-you-straight look on her face, then boldly says, "Aunt Zo, it's not a monster kwoset." I stifled my laugh, as it would've hurt her feelings. Instead, I "got" instantly what she was thinking, so I knelt down, put my arms around her and said, "Oh, honey, I didn't mean there are monsters in the closet. Not at all. I was just using an expression that grown ups use when they mean something is something really big . Like a monster tractor or a monster house--just means really big. Has nothing at all to do with monsters. Okay? There are no monsters in this closet or anywhere else." She was satisfied and comforted. Well, we continued our tour. She showed us the bathroom, the baby's room, then her room. Picture a happy girl with enthusiastic hand motions. "These are my toys, and this is my bed, and these are my books, and this is my twash can, and this is my kwoset. It's not a monster kwoset either. It's not very big." The girl learns ! But between you and me, MY closet in the sewing room really have monsters in it. I'm sure of it. |
Cute story, Zo....I would think gremlins are what inhabit my space...you know the ones that misplace things...
