What a wonderful inheritance! You have done a wonderful job in your rooms. Must be a joy to sew in your areas.

gramquilter2 02-03-2015 03:26 PM

Wow, you have a fantastic space to work in. Have fun quilting in it.

Great planning, great room. I love it! Wish I had a room I could convert as you have this one.

My only concern is what the light from the window/door will do to your fabric? It's why I have not moved my fabric out of containers in a closet onto open shelving and am holding out for a cupboard or armoire; I'm worried about the fade factor, and also sunlight is hard on fabric overtime. Any plans for blocking the light or covering those shelves?

jeanne49 02-03-2015 07:08 PM

Wish my fabric was so organized. But then I don't have quite the same amount of space you do. Looks really great

lfstamper 02-03-2015 07:17 PM

Fabulous space. Your Auntie wouldbe proud!

Lori S 02-03-2015 07:59 PM

You have truly honored your inherited treasures. What a great space!

QuiltMom2 02-04-2015 04:45 AM

If I die leaving that much fabric, I hope I have someone like you to inherit it!

Momala24 02-04-2015 06:10 AM

I think I'd like to live at your house! It looks fabulous beyond words!

babasil 02-04-2015 06:34 AM

I would love to know I had a sewing space, it is wonderful

Ariannaquilts 02-04-2015 07:03 AM

I absolutely love everything you have done, it really does look like a fabric shop. Your setup is extremely functional and your very fortunate that your Aunt had such a vast collection, did the others that got the other sewing machines get the same amount of books and fabric? Sorry for your loss, but you have definitely honored her with all the time and work you and your husband have put in.

zozee 02-04-2015 08:47 AM

It doesn't slip at all? I'd be afraid I'd bump the table top with a hot iron on it, and burn myself.

Thanks for the kudos. We didn't attach it! The wrapped canvas keeps it from slipping, and on the side I cut on, the cabbies directly support the table top. The "knee hole" is only 3' X 1'.

BerninaGirl 02-04-2015 10:31 AM

Amazing job, and KUDOs to you for getting all that done in a month.

Sew Freak 02-04-2015 10:32 AM

really nice! I know you'll have fun in there!

carolynjo 02-04-2015 11:32 AM

You are fortunate, indeed. Can't wait to see what wonders you create with that windfall of fabrics and books.

jmoore 02-04-2015 11:39 AM

I agree, you could open your on LQS... Nicely organized. Looks like you're havin fun

Karen Mc 02-04-2015 11:55 AM

Wonderful sewing space you have created!!! Enjoy!

matraina 02-04-2015 01:16 PM

Wow, that's some stash of fabric you have there. Your rooms are so neat!

tessagin 02-04-2015 01:25 PM

Looks like you've been busy and it looks great! Nice and tidy. Amazing what you can do in a small space. but yours isn't that small. Great job!

tessagin 02-04-2015 01:30 PM

I have an extra board I made for pressing (21x36") I use on top of my ironing board. It's heavy enough, it doesn't move either. The weight holds in place.

Oh My. You can quilt forever and never run out of what you need., Beautiful spaces and what fun it must have been to organize it all.

Material Witness 02-04-2015 05:32 PM

Great room, so well organized.
My concern is that while quilts supposed to be protected from the acids in wood, wouldn't this apply to fabric as well? Or is the polyurethane finish on the wood enough?

ccthomas 02-04-2015 07:39 PM

Your Aunti would be pleased with all you have been able to accomplish since May. Looks like a happy place.

Good question. Hmmm. Most of the fabric sits above the wood by virtue of being wrapped on those Polar Notions boards. But of course the bottom fabric of the stacks do sit on the wood, and some of the wrapped "bolts" do touch it. Hmmm. I'll have to let you know on that one. I didn't use polyurethane. I just stained and put them up. I didn't know about protecting from acids. Thanks for the tip! I suppose I could cover the shelf surfaces with clear contact paper if it becomes a problem.

I'm now working on a "design wall curtain." Purchased 3 yards of 60" wide felt yesterday, and had some wide quilt binding found in Aunti's stash. I'll post pictures when I figure out how best to hang it. Again, thanks for all the kind comments!

Wow, your room is beautiful! Great layout, plus nice wall color and light. I thought mine was pretty good but you've given me ideas to improve it.

So, tonight we solved this problem by constructing a design wall. My hubby found some 1/4" steel rods at the hardware store. I bought 3 yards of 60" wide felt. Aunti had some 1/2" double-wide bias tape in her stash. I bound the edges, and my hubby threaded the rods through the resulting pocket top and bottom. He put cup hooks into the ceiling, slid the rods into the cup hooks and voila! A design wall. :D

The only thing is that I can't see my rainbow of fabrics... it was a choice of either masking the wall of fabric or the window light, and I love looking out a window during the day, so I decided that I can take down the design wall fabric at will, or (probably more likely) I can roll it up to the ceiling when I'm choosing fabrics from the wall. :D It has ties on it so I can roll it up and tie it there. I may make multiple layers to my design wall in time (as I saw on Pinterest).

Great room, so well organized. Fabulous stach. you are a lucky gal!!

Could be a rigid two panels desing wall hung on a rail and sliding side to side as closet doors?

I am indeed blessed. Two panels that slide would be dreamy; great idea for the future! For now, hubby figured out an inexpensive way that's working for me. Remember, I'm pretty new. It's going to take awhile for me to get up to the quantity of projects that I see represented on these boards!

tuckyquilter 02-06-2015 03:29 PM

sorry to hear about your Aunt, but hurray for being on the gifting end of the fabric.

Michellesews 02-06-2015 03:50 PM

I have the pictures. I think it's fantastic!! Can I come sew?

redquilter 02-06-2015 04:06 PM

Wow! This is one amazing room and one amazing fabric collection! Your aunt would be so proud of you and so happy to see her treasures live on.

Jitterbug 02-07-2015 07:55 AM

I really like what you have accomplished. You and your husband have done a terrific job. It's good that you have these photos to look back on once you get started with your quilting/sewing journey in this lovely room, for if you're like a lot of us, it sure won't look this neat and tidy!:D

psychonurse 02-07-2015 09:57 AM

I love it all. You have done a wonderful job. I hope my niece will take care of my sewing stuff when I am gone, like you have.
Kuddos to you.

joyful1 02-08-2015 03:43 PM

Wow, what a wonderful quilt/sewing room you & DH have put together. So sorry about your Aunt, but how kind of her to bequest to you what she did. Enjoy! :)

Bequest 02-08-2015 10:03 PM

You have all been so kind and encouraging! Thanks sew much! Last week I finished binding Aunti's last unfinished quilt. I'm going to my first guild meeting tonight. :-)

christi54 02-09-2015 09:05 AM

You have a beautiful space, envy you all your shelves, my fabric is in bins and more bins. Someday I hope to have a wonderful quilting room such as yours. Enjoy

cuppy 02-13-2015 03:39 AM

Love the way you organize. I fold fabric same way, I need to sort by color. I do not have that much fabric or space. Lets get sewing and sew up that stash. I really envy the neutrals you have. That is what I am purchasing now. Yardage in white ,cream, tan, beige, and gray.

panderz 02-14-2015 01:16 AM

I love this... So nice to be able to see everything at a glance.

Your clear riser (for lack of a better word) on your sewing machine caught my eye. What is that called? Do they make them for other machine brands?

Thanks so much for sharing. It's a wonderful space!
