Refurbished dresser for storing some of my stuff
2 Attachment(s)
A few weeks ago I decided to refinish my son's old maple dresser as it was sitting idle in the attic. No before pic but this is a great improvement. I needed this piece to be inside so I can store my Studio cutter and dies on top as my sewing room is very tight so it went into the guest room closet. Will also use four of the drawers for storing quilting items. Stripped the old stain then stained top- painted bottom with high gloss enamel and spray painted handles and knobs with bronze metallic paint.

I don't know what's more impressive - the dresser, or the sentence that began, "A few weeks ago I decided to refinish..."
We just finished painting the bedroom (on the to-do list since we painted it 2 1/2 years ago and hated the color) and, in the process, relocated my Grandma's old cedar chest. I've had the chest for about 20 years and I've been "gonna refinish that" for most of those years. And it only took you a few weeks! You're good! And you did a fabulous job on the dresser - it looks wonderful! I love that you stained the top and painted the rest. Very cool. |

It looks fabulous! Extra storage is always a bonus. |
You did a very impressive job. It is saving money for use to recycle items that can be used for our quilting hobby.

What a beautiful dresser. You did a fantastic job. I have had a small end table in our garage for 2-3 yrs that I was going to "refinish" but never took the time. I think you have inspired me to get going!!

Beautiful dresser!

:thumbup:Looks lovely!

Thanks. It was a spur of the moment decision as the weather was warm enough to do it. Although old as it was originally my DH's dresser, it was in great shape for the age. I used EZ Strip- learned to leave it on longer than stated after watching videos on their website and youtube- don't we love youtube. I did this all while DH was away for about a week. When he got home, he wanted to know how much sewing I got in. I led him out to garage and was he surprised! Like quilting, the right tools were important- disposable gloves, old t-shirt pieces for staining, and important a new paint brush that is for enamel paint! Now today, I get to put away those sewing/quilting items.

It looks great!!

Great job-looks fantastic

Bravo! You did a great job. Doesn't it feel good to salvage and beautify a perfectly functional piece?
you did a fantastic job... it looks wonderful.

Looks great. I love up-cycling!
I really like your dresser. At the cost of new furniture, you've got a very classic piece and it is a lot more sturdy and well made than something new. Great job!
Wowser! Storage, looks great and free. Isn't that a trifecta?
You did a great job on this dresser. I read some blogs recently about painting furniture and apparently you just have to rough up the finish some and these new furniture paints do a great job. All the ones on the blogs are fantastic.
My goodness! What a wonderful job on the dresser! It turned out beautiful!
Beautiful piece for your sewing room. You could also put a large portable ironing board piece on the top of it to iron flat pieces...many uses for the top of it. What a great job. Thanks for sharing.
It must have been hard to decide to put it in the closet. I tried refinishing once your tip to leave the stripper on longer than directed is priceless to anyone who is going to try this along with the right tools. Enjoy your dresser and your organized quilting. Just don't put UFO's in there...i've heard they multiply if left in the dark.

Great solution for storage. your refinishing and painting gave impressive results. Enjoy!
Looks great. I would not be able to find enough room in my sewing room for anything else. It is filled up.
It looks beautiful.
You did a stellar job on that piece, hope you enjoy it for many years to come.
Beautiful job. I have my Studio in the closet too.
I'm curious about how your die storage will work. I'm having trouble finding a good storage solution for my largest sizes of dies (strips, and the like) oh, and my dies from AccuCut with the pins. |
You did a wonderful job on your dresser. It looks great!
Great save! I love re-purposed items
Awesome job. Looks like it just came off the factory floor.
Wow! You did this in just a few weeks! You did a great job! Do you make house calls...LOL
Gorgeous! I love the painted wood with the natural top. And such a great amount of storage, too. Good for you!
Beautiful job!

Wow, you got a lot of feed back on this. You did a beautiful job, I used to enjoyed refinishing things years ago, not so much any more. Although I just picked up an old dresser on CL for $25. Real wood. I'm going to refinish it to match a picket fence headboard (with bird houses built on it) also found on CL. It's finished with a distressed off white paint. It will be challenging. It's for my quest room. Thanks for the hint about using enough paint stripper.

Great storage...You did a great job refinishing it...
