Renovations almost finished

We've been doing some renovations to my sewing room and thought I would share some photos. We removed the carpet and wallpaper - put down wood flooring and painted the room a light purplish-gray. My hubby also built the L-shaped counter tops which I love. He still has drawers to make for the two end cupboards but bought the wood today for that job.

Sorry to send so many - too excited I guess! Hubby put in grommets to help get rid of the sewing machine cords all over the counter top. He also put some strips (like a small box tube) down the wall to hide the cords from the lights under the wall shelf unit. I have room for bins/totes/drawer thingees under the counter top, too so lots of storage. Not much room for my serger but I can move over the quilting machine beside it whenever I wish to serge. It's not perfect but so much better than the old sewing area!

CoventryUK 02-29-2012 01:24 PM

Even more impressed!!!! How big is your room???

tebill 02-29-2012 01:29 PM

The room is 11' x 13' so not huge but certainly workable. I used to have two industrial machines where the L-shaped counter top now is. Then I bought another embroidery machine and no where to put it! So the industrial ones were sold and the renovations began!

BMP 02-29-2012 01:34 PM

Very nice room, so organized and a great set-up !!You are lucky

Well you've utilized the space beautifully!! My room is only 7' x 9' (we don't do large in the UK!!) and is in need of an overhaul!!!! My friend Izy(also on QB) has threatened to visit and get me 'organized'!! Can't wait!!!!:)

Great space. Isn't it nice to have a husband that can do these things? It is very organized. Good planning!!!!!

Linnie 02-29-2012 01:47 PM

Looks great. Wish I had that space.

Pat-w 02-29-2012 02:16 PM

OMG....Love your space! Wish I had it's twin. So well organized with all those shelves, counter space, etc. Your hubby is definitely a keeper. I see you have a couple of Viking machines. I am very happy with my Designer, but working toward the Diamond or Ruby maybe some day. Enjoy your new sewing home. I'd never leave it if I were you!

Kim Bohannon 02-29-2012 02:20 PM

I think we need to 'take up a collection' & get more thread for you! (since you haven't any)!

LOL, love that comment! tebill, your sewing area is to die for. What a great job by you and your hubby, and I know you'll enjoy it immensely. Love the funny face totes too.

nannyrick 02-29-2012 02:37 PM

Beautiful. Love your floor.

Green with envy.

paulettepoe 02-29-2012 04:29 PM

Oh my, how lucky you are. I have never seen totes likes the ones with the faces. this is a wonderful space. love all the thread.

indycatcarol 02-29-2012 06:15 PM

Beautiful! My sewingroom is about 10x12 with just enought room to inch from the door to the sewing machine. I wonder if there is someone I could hire to come in and just clean up my sewingroom every month. LOL! Since my husband died I've put down new flooring in the DR, LR and hall. Want to put new carpet in the 3 bedrooms but dread having to clear them out (sewingroom disaster in the middle size BR and batting and quilt storage in the small BR).

Tartan 02-29-2012 07:23 PM

It looks perfect to me! Love your mannequin with the scarf thrown recklessly over her shoulder. She's such a diva!

Oh my goodness! I love it and there's an extra chair for me! The thing I love most is the vintage sewing machine and cover and the classy way you have it displayed. I love that!

I found them at one of our local quilt stores but have seen them in several quilting stores. The store is Sewing Sensations (Canada).

ging10ging 03-01-2012 03:40 PM

Looks really great to work in. DH has also done a great job. Have fun sewing. Love the room. Sue

I have a Designer 1 which has been a great machine! However, I was lucky to be able to buy a Diamond Deluxe last summer. One thing to consider if you buy the Diamond - you will need a deep counter top or desk to accomodate the largest hoop! Until hubby built the new counter tops, I wasn't able to use the big hoop!
