I have a framed 4 x 6 pegboard up that I just love. I also have some smaller ones that aren't up - running out of wall space,
|
I have a 1/2 sheet in my regular sewing room above the ironing board--holds my rulers. And in the basement with the long arm I have another 1/2 sheet and also holds rulers and stencils. Makes it super handy in both rooms. I don't hang thread cones because I have too many and don't want them getting dusty (I'm not as neat as some of you and live on a gravel road so everything is ALWAYS dusty).

pegboards
This is free standing pb leaning to the wall behind your machines.
I buy 4 -2x2's and 2 pegboards. you can ask home supply to saw a 1/4" slot down each 2x2 for 50 cents a cut. then I encase one pb inside the slots. Leaving 2 long legs of the 2x2's long enough to form "standing legs for your pb. This will leave room for your hooks or pegs. Lay it down withe the 2nd pb on top, behind the1st pb in the frame, this is the back side. Take a dowel stick and stick it through both pb's, you want to angle it so it at a downward angle. Nail in place. When you flip it over the dowels will be angled up so your thread will not fall off. You can buy a hand full of 1/4" dowels, ask them to tape them together and cut them in 6 or 8" lengths. when you slide them into both pb's it will stay put. NO HOOKS NEEDED. THE HOOKS WILL COST MORE THAN THE PB'S. I can't load pics. |
This is a sight to behold. Love the color it adds to your workspace.

so tidy… I am jealous

Gotta have pegboard-as much as your wall space will allow! So much easier to organize and see where your supplies are than hunting through drawers and tubs:)

I have a 4' x 6' pegboard. I can't imagine living without it.

I love peg board and have two walls of it, I hang everything.

I don't know that I've seen this much thread anywhere. Love it.

I have a center bearing wall in my basement (sewing room) so I threw up some pegboard on both sides to house all my embroidery threads, rulers, quilting items, etc. I'm getting ready to add a few more pegboards under the embroidery thread pegboards as my quilting company changed the size of their spools so they no longer fit in my rolling cart properly. I bought my hooks from the Office Supply Store online as I could get them much cheaper than local plus they have a number of different sizes to choose from.
Here are a couple pics of mine. |

I have pegboard all over my sewing room. The middle wall has it on both sides. One side has my embroidery and quilting threads and the other side has all my rulers, rotary cutters, etc. Don't know what I'd do if I didn't have my pegboards to store stuff and still be able to see what I have. Not much wall space is open. My PC is acting up so can't upload all my pegboard photos but you get the picture. I purchased the hooks from a online store outlet as they were cheaper as I needed over 500 hooks just for my quilting threads alone and about just as many if not more for my embroidery threads.
Snooze: Do you find your thread gets dusty? I have tons of thread, too, for my embroidery machine....and need to find a better organizing solution.... |
I have one and can't imagine not having it.
|
I have a long one above my short cabinets in the cutting/fabric room which holds most of my rulers, bindings on TP rolls waiting to be attached. On the other side of this wall is my machine room and I have all my threads using the metal hooks. I have my threads arranged by type.......embroidery, quilting, regular and serger. My embroidery thread is arranged to match the thread chart so I can easily look at the chart and know where I can find that particular thread. I also labelled with the thread number so I can put it back where it belongs. Obviously I had too much time on my hands that day.

I LOVE my pegboard. I have only gotten one sheet down to my apt (rest are still in storage). I hang my stencils off them but so many other things such as patterns and quilting tools. Just like a husband hangs his toys in the garage, you can organize your quilting toys just like his!

i love my pegboard. i have all of my thread hanging on it on june taylor spool racks. an i love to hang other notions that i use while at the machine.

Becky, had to laugh at the ceiling idea. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a great idea. The reason I had to laugh is quilters are always looking for more space in their sewing rooms; the ceiling, the final frontier.

Then there's when we bend the space/time continuum & we can store stuff in the past. Hmmm? What year did I put that orange fabric in? What the heck is this pile here???!? I was going to use that spot. Dang you, future quiltmouse! |
Love the pegboard for all my long arm stuff because it makes it so easy to find everything. I thought my stuff looked organized, but WOW, all these other setups are awesome!

I love all of these ideas! The pix are great too. Everything looks so organized. I think that the best thing about pegboards is that they use vertical space that would otherwise be wasted. There is a zero foot print. Plus, they add some visual interest to the walls too. Now my little brain is thinking of what I could do with pegboard?...hummmmm.....

I have a very small bedroom for my office/sewing room. My husband framed a piece of pegboard and hung it on the backside of the door leading to the hallway. I hang all my rulers there, and when the door is open flat against the wall, they don't show.

loisf- that's a great idea.

I have pegboard holding up all my threads as well as smaller items making it easier to find them quickly. Here's a few photos. I have most all my threads on pegboard near the machine that uses it. This photo is basically my e mbroidery threads but the bottom pegboard holds most of my quilting threads. The 2nd photo is just half of my small items I use for my sewing projects. The other half not shown holds some of the rulers we think we must have in our lives.

I have a pegboard that takes up about half a wall in my sewing room. It holds tons of things! And you can see what you need at a glance. It's the best thing in there.
I got my supplies at Home Depot. Great investment. (but my sewing room is still a mess haha) |
