The truth!

I love all the views and ideas posted about our sewing areas, studios and kitchen tables but really now
my question to everyone is.....

are you brave enough :Dto post a pic' of what your sewing space looks like when you are actually sewing in it?

So many of these rooms are so picture perfect. I want to see how you actually use your space. So much more fun than 'all put away'.

here's mine: a room in working order!:D

normasews 12-12-2012 06:55 PM

Not sure I'm brave enough. I may post some tomorrow...if I'm feeling brave.

Lori S 12-12-2012 07:15 PM

Oh I don't think I can ever disclose mine.. there are just some things better left a mystery.

Country1 12-12-2012 10:24 PM

Looks about right. My DH would be mortified if I posted our 2 hobby rooms!...11
Dear Lori S, I've been trying for 3 days to put pics on with no luck. And I've put some on before, go figure!

OK here you go- sooo messy, but I am in the middle of Christmas gift making LOL!!

sewmom 12-13-2012 05:20 AM

Ok, these all look better than mine! No way am I posting any pics of my room! It's so bad, my paths are disappearing! Clean up is coming- look out clutter!

gail-r 12-13-2012 06:16 AM

I'm sure the naughty sewing elf comes into my sewing room when I'm not looking and drags everything out that she knows I've thought about in the last week. Then, to really keep me on my toes, she mixes everything together then scatters it all over the room. I personally would never make such a mess as this. :)

I hope I'm doing this right and it is in the correct thread. Here is my somewhat organized work space.
Also hope pictures aren't too big.

I'm with you, mystery is the name of the game.

Everyones 'messy' looks better than my usual. I can clean mine up, but it only last a day or so.
Phyllis

Sew Freak 12-13-2012 08:32 AM

no guts here......trust me, your room in working order is alot nicer than the mess I make....hence....not guts!

cpfrog 12-13-2012 09:33 AM

I thought you said TRUTH! All these look quite "orderly" to me, compared to my mess. HAhahaha

I think i have shown pictures before but these are my recent ones.
This is just half of the room. The other half is the family room.

I hate [yes, feeling that strong] this recent house I bought and will sell and move after the first of the year. So I'm not organizing this house much. This is my sewing space for the moment [the iron is on the kitchen counter]

And I had to move a bed to put up the quilting frame ... but to have enough room to store the bed, had to remove the bedroom door :)

All of the fabric and other machines are in the basement, which is dry... thankfully.

pocoellie 12-13-2012 04:00 PM

I would, but I don't think you would believe it. LOL

This is the view from the door. Currently I am working on a QAYG Christmas quilt. I am hoping to re-organize over Christmas break to make room for my new machine so that I can start using it.

w7sue 12-13-2012 05:49 PM

I love seeing these pictures ... but, my room has gone through a major change and really looks pretty bare - now the longarm area is another thing ...

bearisgray 12-13-2012 06:59 PM

Nope, not my areas.

MimiBug123 12-13-2012 07:18 PM

I was hoping to see one that looks as bad as mine, but not yet. I think I will wait until tomorrow!

sewellie 12-13-2012 08:12 PM

'what an interesting iron and rest? What is that?

Pilgrim 12-13-2012 08:47 PM

If I knew how to post pictures of my sewing rooms I would. They are organized construction zones. As I tell my friends and family, if your coming to see me, come on over. If your coming to see my house, make an appointment. My sewing rooms get messy creating, when I am finished with something I straighten it up but I can't remember the last day I didn't sew for at least 2 hours so there is always "construction" going on in one or both of them. Every once in a while I just say to myself, ok clean it up and then jump back into construction.

I love the prominent display of good old Rip.

Sierra 12-13-2012 10:20 PM

A couple of weeks ago I was missing some fabric, two 6 yard pieces meant as backing for quilts. I'd been at my daughter's house taking care of grandkids for 6 weeks and doing some sewing there also (not much!). Looked there, had my granddaughter look everywhere, and then my daughter. No luck. I had to have one 6 yard piece and I finally found a piece that "would do" and ordered it, but in the meantime I absolutely went through everything. Took out all my fabrics, refolded, and redid my stacks by color. Went though all my drawers and boxes and bins and made everything absolutely neat. Lables now put on every box and bin. Still couldn't find it. So, new material arrived and I got back into quilting. Quilt almost done. But my quilting room? Oh, my! Everything is out, all over the place (only the things I used, not so much fabric). I always work on two or three things at once and then clean up. Mark me down as #5 in this thread of those of us who can't figure out how to post pictures. :(

Love your Bernina. :0) Is that a magnetic pin holder? Never have it around your computerized machine...

Michellesews 12-14-2012 06:13 AM

Nope! Not that brave...lol.

Geri B 12-14-2012 06:28 AM

thanks for all the pics....now I know I am not alone in my working messes. They are part of our creative side of our brain, so be proud of what comes "out" of these rooms............and btw, if I clean mine up too much, I cannot find anything........so there must be some order in my disorder....for me anyway.

What she said works for me, too!

pdriggs 12-14-2012 08:23 AM

I use the magnetic pin holder around my machine. I just sent an email to Viking to ask about magnets and my SELE (which ones and where they can be placed). I'll let you know. They say the will reply within 72 hours.
Phyllis

pdriggs 12-14-2012 08:47 AM

I asked about the Viking SELE.........so now I know about that specific machine. I think I have always used miagner around my Brother 8500.

Hello Ms. Driggs,

Thank you for contacting Husqvarna Viking at SVP Worldwide. You can use
magnets on this machine, and they can be used anywhere that they will bond
to the machine. We do not recommend putting the magnet on the screen.

Thank You,
Valerie

This thread has been a lot of fun so far. I have enjoyed the responses and great sewing areas you all have shown.

A few days ago there was a thread about being organized and how many of the same item you keep on hand for when they disappear. I mentioned how I keep small things orderly and that I don't like to put stuff in drawers. There is one drawer in my area and that is where I found my 24"x 6" ruler after I lost it for about two weeks. :D That just proves to me that I shoudln't put anything in drawers!
peace

imnywoman 12-14-2012 10:10 AM

Love it!! Looks like mine!! Happy sewing.

overdew 12-14-2012 12:48 PM

Everybody's looks better than mine. It looks like a bomb went off in a fabric factory--and lots of dust. I have to clean up a bit when I run out of "elbow room". Might as well just laugh!

Thanks for the heads up- it never occurred to me that I should keep the pin holder away from the machine- but you are right! Good thing I posted the pic of my messy room. LOL.

QuiltingHaven 12-14-2012 03:08 PM

Oh, I just love this. I feel so in-tune with everyone. I would have posted my "normal" working area however, I just finished my Christmas quilts and decided to straighten up the area and it is currently pristine (yes, really!!!!). I called the DH down and showed him how perfect I can be with putting everything where it "should be" soooooo, tomorrow I start on the wonderful Ohio Star Pattern and finish up the Quilting Houses quilt that I have been cutting over that past week. Hey, we have to have a little clutter to be creative and those hunts for the tools just add to our creativity.
