Those look great! Too bad our nearest IKEA is 4 hours away.

QM 02-28-2017 07:27 PM

Those look good.

minibarn 02-28-2017 07:29 PM

Wow that is a lot of thread. Neat cabinets.

Tartan 02-28-2017 07:30 PM

Great cabinet!

cashs_mom 02-28-2017 08:03 PM

That's really nice! How tall is it?

BrendaK 02-28-2017 08:03 PM

I thought that I had a lot of thread. Love the cabinets. BrendaK

Love the cabinets, especially the small one. What are the names of the product lines?

jmoore 03-01-2017 04:01 AM

Those look great...I am heading to New Haven, CT this weekend to see my DIL and grandson...I think there is an IKEA close to them. : ) I wonder how much I can fit into my Jeep Grand Cherokee...

Watson 03-01-2017 05:30 AM

Love your cabinets!

One thing I found was that, if you line the drawers with that bumpy plastic shelf liner, the thread doesn't move around when you pull the drawers open.

WOW! I think you hold the record for "longest" daylong road trip! Looks like it was worth it!

quiltybarb 03-01-2017 06:39 AM

Great idea

ksdot417 03-01-2017 06:42 AM

I love Ikea! I recently bought something similar to yours and I couldn't believe how well it was made - and so easy to move around. Great choice!

janjanq 03-01-2017 06:59 AM

Worth the trip!

I have one of them out with my LA - I put my rulers and tools in it. Most of my spools for the LA are too tall to fit in the drawers, so I have a different Ikea cabinet for them.

I have a second one in my sewing room, and since it is on wheels, I use it as a ironing station when I am doing paper peiceing and need to iron often. I can roll it next to my sewing table so I don't have to get up to iron. When not in use, I roll it under the end of my ironing board where it is out of the way, but still close enough to the sewing table for easy access.

Our nearest Ikea is about 5 hours away (Twin Cities MN). We went a couple of weeks ago so I could get an adjustable table for my machine, and a couple of storage cabinets for the sewing room.

That's a great size. I do have an Ikea near me. I might have to look into these. I currently have some 25 year old plastic drawers that I"m still using. They could probably move to under the cutting table and get rid of the boxes there. Hmmmmm . . . it sounds like a trip to Ikea is in my future! :D

mopec 03-01-2017 07:31 AM

I use cabinets similar to these just not Ikea. I always feel like a grade-schooler opening a gigantic box of crayons and that makes me happy. Where did you get the dividers in the lower picture?

BonnieAnn 03-01-2017 07:51 AM

Thank you for posting these pictures. Would you please post the name of the IKEA series so I can make a fast trip to my IKEA!

Diannia 03-01-2017 08:29 AM

I have a similar cabinet to your 1st pictured one. I currently am using it to hold my "next" projects but love your idea for thread instead!

annette1952 03-01-2017 08:52 AM

Awesome cabinets.

verna2197 03-01-2017 03:23 PM

If I remember correctly they are called Alex, I would actually like to have more of this series

Looks like it will easily hold all your rainbow colors of thread.

Innov8R 03-01-2017 05:34 PM

You won't get dust on your thread with those cabinets. These are super.

I wanted to show you what I did. I put my thread in by color and I also went to Wal-Mart and purchased sheets of Foam Board and made dividers in the drawers. That way the colors will stay together. Also wanted to let you know that I have Embroidery Thread, Quilting Thread, Sewing Thread, Serger Thread. I have lots of it and purchasing these cabinets have really freed up wall space, counter space and cabinet space for me. I love them and am thinking of another road trip. LOL

Mariposa 03-01-2017 06:32 PM

Terrific cabinets!

QuiltnLady1 03-01-2017 07:39 PM

I have some plastic drawers similar -- love the idea for the drawer dividers.

Is a fast trip there even possible? Ha, ha. Not in our case, at least.

yellowwroses 03-02-2017 01:08 AM

really like it never have been to one to far away

Debbie C 03-02-2017 05:29 AM

You can shop at Ikea.com...they ship!

momsbusy 03-02-2017 07:32 AM

Nice! Definitely an upgrade from my plastic drawers from Target. I might have to go shopping.😊

BonnieAnn 03-02-2017 07:37 AM

Oh yes, pedal to the metal, there in 45 minutes! Start back home in a couple of hours!

I use the same type of thing, only I got them at Fred Meyer years ago. I looked for name of product but the only thing I found was a bunch of foreign language and then at the bottom of all that it said Made in the USA. Mine were a lot cheaper and I've had them for over 20 years so they have held up well. I love storing my thread like this.
I am going to try the shelf liner thing on the bottom of the shelves that someone suggested. That is the only problem I have with my storage. It's a good idea.

Wow, love those thread storage cabinets
