I am doing it.I am eating more healthy and have all these spinach containers.they make great free storage for scraps, selvedages and 2.5 in strips.I saw this on a blog a year ago and laughed-well now I love it.

chips88 06-29-2012 06:43 AM

clever idea. and you can see what you have. thanks for sharing

Tartan 06-29-2012 06:58 AM

I love spinach and that is a great way to reuse the containers. It keeps them out of the landfill and keeps your pieces nice and neat.

Nanaquilts44 06-29-2012 07:29 AM

Great way to store these strips. I love that one of them says "Organic".

Crafty1 06-29-2012 07:51 AM

That's a great idea! I've had so many of them and didn't even think to save them. Now I will! Thanks!

mighty 06-29-2012 02:33 PM

Awesome!!!!

Pickles 06-29-2012 08:14 PM

Great ideal , try cooking oil and rub with it to get the lables off , it works well for me.

mjsylvstr 06-30-2012 03:04 AM

For PPing scraps, I use the containers from Hillshire Farms (and others) from the vacuum packed cold cuts. They are wonderful.and two containers fit on each shelf of my hanging canvas shoe bag, which has ten shelves.

Really keeps them in place and easy to find.

MamaHen 06-30-2012 03:05 AM

That is a great idea, hadn't seen it before, just may try it.

nunnyJo 06-30-2012 03:16 AM

we just are so smart, I'll start keeping the containers.

MaryKatherine 06-30-2012 03:54 AM

I use some that way but I primarily use them to cut into stencils or applique shapes. I can trace them hundreds of times.

Try using GOO GONE,GOOF OFF,or UNDO I use the and it works just fine.

Sew happy 06-30-2012 05:57 AM

Hehehe!! Love it!

quiltmama22 06-30-2012 07:22 AM

Duh! A use for all those strawberry containers I've saved. I also save the deeper meat trays for
dyeing fabric. They are perfect to scrunch up pieces with just a little bit of dye on bottom--or dribble
dye over top and let it run.

carolynjo 06-30-2012 07:36 AM

Try using GooGone on the adhesive/labels to remove them. It works for me.

leamelon 06-30-2012 09:38 AM

....and I thougjt I was the only one that did this. Great quilters think alike

kitsykeel 06-30-2012 09:51 AM

If you simply cannot remove the sticker, why not glue a piece of pretty fabric over it?

After soaking off the label, try a dab of peanut butter to get the glue off. It really works!

nannyrick 06-30-2012 11:01 AM

Great Idea. Thanks.

DonnaC 06-30-2012 11:01 AM

Yet another great idea from this board... love it!

sylviak 06-30-2012 11:09 AM

Glue or tape a pretty piece of fabric or paper over the label and it will look very attractive! There are some beautiful papers used in scrapbooking.

AuntieD 06-30-2012 01:47 PM

Great idea! Quilters are naturaly recyclers!!

KathyKat 06-30-2012 03:00 PM

Great idea! I've always hated throwing them away and I'm about ready to start sorting my scraps.

Jackie R 06-30-2012 03:22 PM

These clear plastic containes are great storage - I use them too and can clearly see the contents.

chickadeee55 06-30-2012 03:49 PM

LOL, your going green in more ways than one. Great idea!

katsewnsew 06-30-2012 04:15 PM

now aren't you a clever one!!! I will start using them, too! Wouldn't rubbing alcohol take off the stickers?

Rose_P 06-30-2012 05:22 PM

Great hint - and I think the stickers add character.

4EVERquilt 06-30-2012 06:18 PM

Cooool idea!!

Grandma Peg 06-30-2012 06:22 PM

Your accomplishing a couple things here, eating good, recycling, and being organized. Can't beat that!!

captlynhall 06-30-2012 07:36 PM

I use those containers too. They are big enough to hold quite a bit of stuff and because they are clear you can always see what's inside. I do use Goo Gone and then wash with hot soapy water. One of the other recycle deals I do is use empty prescription bottles (the kind with the hard to get off tops) with a hole punched in the top to put my old needles in. The other day, I received a gift box that had an oval aluminum top and bottom so I kept them to use as mini trays for my current quilting do-dads. I use a Pandora jewelry box to carry pins back and forth to quilt class.

TeresaS 06-30-2012 09:45 PM

great idea thanks!
now i have to eat healthy.....

karate lady 06-30-2012 09:56 PM

I am a big fan of "re-use..re-cycle" this is a great idea. I use a lot of this type thing to start seeds in.

craftymatt2 07-01-2012 05:57 AM

Very smart, except eventually they will land in the landfill according to my kids, they will wrap me in my fabric, before they cremate me and then throw everything else into the dumpster, including my three sewing machine, go figure, what snot heads they are.
But i do love the ideas i get from you guys, thank you

There's a product I use called De-Solv-it. I find it at Walmart. It has an orangy scent and is a little oily, but it works wonders....on all kinds of things, especially on removing labels and the"stick-em" residue from labels. Detergent removes the oiliness easily.

Me too, I've been doing this for 4 yrs. I always look at an item as something to use for storage. And I thought that I was so smart. I also use zip lock sandwich bags for storing my buttons in by color and then keep the bags in one of these containers. Also, a container for each with bias binding, ribbons, elastics, webbing, and zippers. Very easy to see what you have .

dglvr 07-01-2012 08:38 AM

OH my goodnes that is a great idea. I've thrown so many away. Darn me anyways. I'll be saving them from now on. Thanks for the tip. :)
