What do you use to hang rulers and stencils?

So i used to have them in the bedroom closet. I just put up nails and hung them. It was like doing a picture wall. Hung a big one and then started filling the wall. Where ever they fit. I have since grown out of that bedroom so still working on new ideas.
tried to pegboard idea. My amazing hubby helped. Made it about 14” square inside a picture frame
. I shiuld have shown him some pictures first- but hated to sound ungrateful. Still have it. Just not very useful😁
