I'm trying to make the effort to take care of at least one thing that's out of place every day ( and not get anything else out to replace it!) At this point, I'm organized just messy!

I am in the process of inventorying all my sewing supplies and measuring how much shelf space I need for fabric, books and storage containers because I am going to get some built-in storage in my sewing room. I need to know exactly what I'm looking for when I talk to the cabinet installers. I find that having everything out in the open bothers me, so I am going for more closed storage. I will be glad to get rid of the IKEA cubbies and glass front bookshelves. My husband says he wants them for his man cave so it's win-win.

I gave my cross stitch supplies away. I had every color of DMC floss sold when I was cross stitching. I asked the person I gave it to if she liked the patterns I had. She said yes she loved them but hasn't used any of it yet. They were definitely on her to do list. Same list I had, so I about guarantee the stash will be given away again. I hope someone uses it before the floss gets too old.

I don't really need to organize anything in my sewing room other than to use up the stash I have. My scraps are in containers by width size, my WOF strips are hanging up so they don't get wrinkled, same for my batting scraps, hanging up by type of batting. I did decided to pull out all my rolling carts under the quilt frame and suck up those nasty little dust bunnies finally plus all the thread tails I didn't get into the trash can, lousy throw I guess. But I finally decided to reorganize my DVD movies upstairs as I have over 1800 movies containing over 2800 disks so a big undertaking on my part. For whatever crazy reason I had back when I had the entertainment built, I started the movies to the right instead of to the left alphabetically plus I pulled out all the Hallmark movies and the series and placed them by themself to the left. Well now everything is alphabetically in order excluding the Hallmark movies starting to the left and moving to the right. I had to put any disk with multiple movies in another area as that's hard to figure out which movie to use to place alphabetically. It took me 2 days but it's done. And yes, I left room for more movies in case I get crazy and order a new one.

My threads in the sewing room are in the same order as their color chart plus I labeled the spindle with the number of the thread color so I know where they go back when finished. My fabrics are organized by color except the batiks as they have their own cabinet and fabrics on bolts are in another cabinet so fairly organized.

I started my trek through all of the saved quilt patterns I have accumulated in the pat 10 or so years. Opened each in one file and reviewed it quickly: Delete, save or return to my file. A few were copied and pasted into a better file such as 2.5 or jelly roll or layer cake or 12" squares.

I found some doozies that got deleted and some lovelies that need to be made. Several more files to review. Organizational progress takes time.

Hi All, I have enjoyed and benefitted from the numerous tips on this thread. Thank you.

Where is Rryder ? Do I remember them being very creative with original designs?

    Just wondering out loud.

I just took a whole load of stuff to the local Animal Shelter Thrift Store, and gave a box full and 2 bags full of fabric I have had a long time and haven't used, and fabric scraps to someone. It has freed up so much space physically and mentally (less is more).. When we made our last move into our current home, I finally have a large sewing room, and it is an effort to keep it from becoming cluttered.

Three cheers for the shelter and those dear four footed friends. Enjoy the new freedom of space cleared of usable detritus. We all have it and you are doing something about it. Good effort and good results, kdias.

Since I am not buying any more fab...I hope I can stick to this idea, I am starting to REORGANIZE my fabric yet again...lol. But this time trying to make up a kit packet or two to work on later. Major goal is to have most of my fabric under one ceiling. (Fabric is spread out in too many rooms...LOL.
