Does anyone have a Kindle or other ebook reader? If so, what do you like/dislike about the one you have? Can you download books from Amazon if you have any ebook or does it have to be a Kindle?
I'm just starting to look into these, so any advise is appreciated.

I have a nook color and I love it. I got my mom a nook and she loves it. We share alot of thebooks and there are so many free ones. I dont know alot about the Kindles but I do love my nook.

I love my Kindle, no complaints here.

You get free 3G on it, so it's nice to be able to look something up (it has a web browser similar to a smart phone) if you're in the car or out somewhere. I don't have a fancy phone though, so maybe that's just a benefit to me. ;)

Also, Amazon has plans to make it so you can check out books from your library electronically. I think that feature is coming out this fall? I don't know if you'd be able to do that with other devices, but for me, that would be a HUGE benefit.

Hope this helps, good luck with your decision.

I have a Kindle and my hub has a Nook Color..now if he had gotten me the Nook first I might have been sold, But I wouldn't give up my Kindle. The only downside is there is no backlighting. The Nook has that. But Booklights are easy so its really not an issue..just not built in.

I have over 400 books on my Kindle...very few did I pay alot for. I am reading the Revenge of the Radioactive Woman...very funny. But most are free. Type in "Public Domain" in the search and it will bring up more than you can imagine. And on Amazon there are always free books to download. Good Luck in your search! =)

I have one and I'm going to list in on ebay:< I received it as a Christmas gift and played with it and decided I simply LOVE the feel of books and would never use it. I guess I'm old fashioned!

There was a link about this awhile ago, someone said you can go to your local library and they will assist you with adding something to your reader so you can download their books. Don't remember who it was, was going to bookmark it but of course didn't! When am I going to learn that I cannot trust my memory! LOL

Libraries serviced by Overdrive will be able to use Kindles for e-book check outs by September. Currently, Overdrive supports Nook, Ipods, Ipads, Iphones, Literati, Blackberry, etc. Actually, you could pretty much say Overdrive library service supports everything but Kindle right now.

If you are interested in using it with a library service, I would check localy before I invested. I'm sure other services exist even though Overdrive is the most popular.

As for the free books Amazon offers on Kindle, most if not all area available from the Gutenberg project for any e-reader or PC for that matter.

Kindle is great and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I get a few magazines/newspapers sent and plenty of books. Always something to read no matter my mood or how long I am having to wait somewhere. So far the no back lighting has't been an issue. I've had mine 3 years.

I just bought the Kindle last week and I love it! I never thought I would get one, but the convenience is wonderful. I will still read "real" books, so it does not totally replace books for me. I have not bought many books yet. I am watching for deals and bargains. I will still definitely use the library and look forward to Overdrive accepting the Kindle. You can also "borrow" books from other Kindle users. I am working on figuring that one out.

Good luck with your decision.
