Going to visit my daughter. Would like to meet up with any QB members in the area if possible. Was 'chatting' with another member and we're talking about meeting in Woodland Park on Friday, July 16. Anyone else want to meet?

Charlee 06-19-2010 09:27 PM

I wish I could!! My kids live in Colorado Springs... :)

It is beautiful there. Have you been? Come on out.

MistyMarie 06-20-2010 06:59 AM

I grew up in Colorado Springs. There are some lovely LQSs there! (I live about an hour north of Colorado Springs now, but am down there a bunch because my in-laws live there.) There are some beautiful places to visit, such as Garden of the Gods. Enjoy!

I grew up in Colorado...and even tho I lived primarily on the Western Slope, I've been to CS many times! :) Love the area...

You're right. Garden of the Gods is beautiful. The church at the Air Force Academy is another 'must' to visit. Visited the Zoo - that was so much fun, a zoo in the mountain top. There are some quaint shops in Manitou Springs, a fun place to just walk and taste all the different waters. There is so much to do there and in the surrounding area.

I've been to Ruth's Stitchery and High Country Quilts. Great shops.

Would be fun if you could join us on the 16th.

MistyMarie 06-20-2010 07:56 AM

Unfortunately, my SIL will be out of town, or I could have dropped my kids off for the day. My brother and she lives near Woodland Park. I might see if my MIL will watch them. I had planned on asking her to watch them so I could go to the Rocky Mountain Sewing Expo the week before this date, so I will have to see. :-)

I'm sure looking forward to your visit and getting to meet you! You'll love "Nuts & Bolts Needleworks" quilt shop here AND of course, there are some terrific places to eat up here!

Anyone else want to join in on the fun?

I do so glad I seen this before I got my plane tickets. Was going back home on the 15th but will stay a couple days longer. Going out on the 10th to visit my daughter and grandkids. Hope to see you there.

WOO HOO - this is so funny - we have to go 1600+ hundred miles and we'll finally get to meet. And we don't live that far from each other here in Michigan. I love it. Looking forward to it. I'm leaving on the 12th.

Just let me know when and where I will be there.

biwrn 06-22-2010 04:22 AM

If I don't have out of town company that Friday I would love to come meet you in Woodland Park. I just live west of WP. Tell me time and place on the 16th and I will try and come.

Is 11:00 or noon good for everyone? We could meet at the Nuts and Bolts Shop? and after that we could go for lunch? Or eat first. I'm open for time and suggestions.

Quiltgranny - can you suggest a place to eat? Or is there a better place to meet?

Grandma's Kitchen has some of the best food in town, can make room for large groups and treats us like gold. They serve a variety of breakfast items as well as lunch, too. Another option is the Ute Inn (the dining side). They have some really awesome menu items ranging from breakfast all day to the best Philly Beef Steak sandwich I've ever had. They serve crab, too. They tend to be less crowded, too. The Circle H Smokehouse has the best BBQ'd everything, but only serves breakfast til 11:15. They have great service, too. There's also the Hungry Bear, IF you can find a parking spot. Parking isn't so much an issue at Grandma's, pulblic parking is behind the Ute and sometimes is across the street at the Smokehouse if you didn't there ahead of the lunch crowd. Let's take a vote.

Meeting at 11:00 to eat before going to Nuts makes the most sense. That way, we're getting served before the crowds come and don't have to shop at Nuts on an empty stomach.

The Smokehouse is located just across the street from Nuts. They might even let us park in the Nuts lot first, then we could just walk over to the Smokehouse eat and walk back to Nuts. The staff at the Smokehouse treat us like gold, too. They wouldn't mind if we lingered as long as we wanted to, either. They have a wonderful salad bar, too - something lacking in the other places I mentioned. They even serve BBQ Buffalo if you're in the mood. Mighty good say my DH.

Those are my thoughts, what do the rest of your girls think?

How I wish I could fly out there and join all of you! I absolutely love Colorado Springs.

My son went to the Air Force Academy and I would visit at least twice a year to see him and all the wonderful places I wanted to see. Last time I was there in 2008, I couldn't believe the growth compared to 2002. It still beckons to me and I may just move out there someday.

The smokehouse is fine with me. Where is the Nuts located at? They have opened since I left CO. and I am sure things have changed in the last 4 years.

TexasGurl 06-23-2010 05:51 AM

Is the Hungry Farmer still in business ??

We ate there on several trips to CS, didn't get to last time -

"Nuts & Bolts Needleworks" is located in the old NAPA Auto Parts building, just catecorner behind the Smokehouse.

This is an older ad, but it gives you an idea of what they've done with the old auto parts building.

Welcome to Nuts n Bolts Needleworks
Location: 200 S Chestnut Street
The owner & staff of Woodland Park's new fabric/quilt shop welcome all to come and see what we have done with the former Napa Auto Parts building. Instead of buying automotive nuts and bolts you will be able to purchase fabric, quilting, sewing, and needlework supplies from a familiar staff who are all "nuts" about our bolts of fabric. While not fully stocked, we are receiving merchandise daily. Hours are 10am-6pm Mon, Tues, Wed, Fri, & Sat, 10am-7pm Thurs, 12-6pm Sun

Come whenever you can!

:D Always a fun and beautiful place to come visit. So much to do and see.

grammo013 06-23-2010 09:07 AM

ok I know where that is. I thought someone said it was in the Ben Franklin store.

The Ben Franklin store closed nearly two years ago. That's when Nuts & Bolts opened.

biwrn 06-24-2010 04:16 AM

Either time is good for me if I get to come!!

grammo013 06-24-2010 04:30 AM

Crying here. Looks like I won't get there after all. I can not get a flight at a resonable price. If I spend 300 to 350 for ticket I will be broke and that is way to high. What happened to all the specials. Course they never do go to CO

biwrn 06-24-2010 04:45 AM

So sorry to hear that

Quiltgranny 06-24-2010 08:10 AM

So, what do you all think of eating at the Smokehouse at 11:00, then ambling across the street to Nuts & Bolts Needleworks? Easy to get to. Just come up Hwy 24, turn right at the 67 North light, go ONE block and turn left making a hard left to pass in front of Nuts. You'll see the Smokehouse on your left just catecorner across the street. Turn left at the stop sign to go in front of the Smokehouse, then left into their parking lot. Or, you can park along the street in between the two places.

Karla

grammo013 06-24-2010 09:05 AM

ok everyone keep your fingers crossed for me. Hubby gave me a new limit so I might still get to come. Only I will probably have to come in on the 15th. saying a prayer here.

I'm praying, I'm praying. Hope you get to make it. You're right, they never seem to have much in the way of flight specials to CO. Check with Travelocity - I frequently have good luck with them.

That was a pretty good deal. Where are you going to do your summer sale? On the board?

If you can get to CS you could ride up with my daughter and me. She's at Peterson Air Base. Unless you have other stops you want to make. Up to you.

Were you going to start a blanket group? Can't remember the name of it now. It wasn't Binky. One of the groups for charity.

Are you flying into Colorado Springs or Denver?

quilterguy27 06-24-2010 11:49 AM

Are any of you members of The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson and Ricky Tims? They tape the show in Colorado Springs. Maybe you could catch a taping of the show. That would be a fun thing to do as a group. Not sure how far LaVeta is from Colorado Springs but Ricky has a studio, gallery and retreat there if you want to check that out. Just throwing out ideas. Wish I could come.
