I joined a 'sensational strippers exchange' on The Quilt Show website and received 100 batiks strips in exchange for ones I sent in. I used a rectangle 'center' to start the log cabin and then when I assembled the blocks, it required a connecting rectangle to fill in because of the layout I chose. My husband picked yellow, out of fabrics I had on hand. It works!
Then, after recently seeing excellent work by a LAQ, I asked if she'd do a custom pattern for it. Laura Jansen (Butterfly Quilting) did freehand quilting, not computer generated. When I asked her by phone if she liked the outcome, she said 'it's organic'. I wasn't sure what that might mean but, oh my, I'm so pleased! : )
I still need to finish the binding....almost done.

Nice batiks! It took guts to use that bright yellow with all those fairly muted colors, and I love it too! But oh my, the quilting! That's incredible!!!

When a long arm quilter uses the term "organic" I believe what she thinks she's telling you is that the quilting was of leaves and flowers....things found in nature....that's organoc
