You're right about the yo-yos. I had some of the fabric in yardage left over from a previous project. The rest I just picked from my scrap bag. I had a circle cutter that I wanted to experiment with and it worked great.
I cut the top border at 6" and the side borders at 4". The little flange was cut at 3/4", folded in half and added before the borders to finish at 1/8".
I machine appliqued the stem and leaves but didn't add the yo-yos until after the quilting was finished. I tacked them in the middle and then hand stitched around the edges to keep them flat during use and washing.

This quilt has a great summery look. Love your use of yo-yos for the flower, 3-d is great.
