This is a 3D pinwheel that I am making. I know I've seen the pattern somewhere, but couldn't find it so went with just the idea and this is what happened. Have all the blocks done and am starting to put the rows together. What do you think?

What a neat block. You're so clever figuring it out. Love your fabric combo too!

Thanks everyone. I love playing with blocks to see if I can made them 3D. I have a few others in minde for upcoming doll quilts.

Jane - this "design wall" is the back of my DH's recliner. It was late and the only reasonable lighting was in the living room so stuck the blocks to that. :) You can get a matching "design wall" at any Sears & Roebuck's. :P

    Your 3D pinwheels are great!!!

Since this is a doll quilt, I am thinking these blocks are small, making your pinwheels an even bigger challenge. Can you tell me how big each of your blocks is???

Hi Marcia - the block is made up of 4 - 2.5 inch pinwheel squares. Each completed block is 4.5 inches. That's not too small, but I'd like to try something even smaller. :) I know - sucker for punishment :), but I love trying them.

I was thinking it was a couch! So those squares are much smaller than I thought at first. They are really nice! My aunt LOVES red, white and black- she would love this.

Very pretty! Putting them together that way, alternating their placement, gives them movement! Very clever, and good use of what is handy at the moment!

Other than the red binding here is the finished top. I'm going to quilt in the red with black thread and on the black border with red thread. :)
