I am attempting to make a table runner for a friend. She wants log cabin blocks for it. I made 2 of the 3 I need and messed up on both of them. Good thing I have plenty of this fabric to work with. LOL!! BTW this is my first attempt at a Log Cabin.
Can you see what I did wrong?

I didn't catch what you were talking about at first... thought you meant for them to be a little longer instead of a square. Now that I see it, I'm sure you do too! You'll get it,and then FLY with it!

Yes, I see it...A log cabin seems so very simple but all the pieces need to be marked and sewn in order...my first one was a disaster, too!

Now that I've made one mistake twice and one once maybe the next will be perfect.

Thank you! I love them too but I want them to be better since they are for someone else.

Oh, I didn't look closely enough. Pick one of the two and make two others to match.

I had to look hard to see the mistake. I just always remember that the new strip has to go on the end of the strip I just sewed. Just keep going around the same direction.

Wow, I had to look really close too. The colors are great and I am sure your friend will love the runner.

DUH is right. I kept looking at them and thinking something isn't right. I think it took me 30 minutes before the light came on.

Ok now that I know everybody can see it I will make new ones and hopefully no mistakes. LOL!

These blocks will go into the pile for the ugliest quilt I will ever make.

They look like 'Carrie's version' of a log cabin, to me.

I'd make one more this shape and have matching (almost) table runners! put the one that is different in the middle and pretend it was supposed to be that way :D

I can't do that. I want it as perfect as possible because she shows off everything I make to anyone that comes to her house.

I'd make a third one and finish the runner, not for your friend, but for the your next sale. Someone will want it. Then make your friend a perfect one.

I like it - the log cabin is fun to piece - I made one and cut all my fabrics then did the speed sewing - just feeding one after the other into my machine - I think cutting took longer than anything. The fun is there are so many ways to arrange the blocks - it can change the whole look.
I really had to concentrate to figure out what you did (wrong - your words) - its so subtle I bet no one would notice but you. Its beautiful and your friend is lucky to have you and your talent. Keep on going...
