    Applique

I tried Rosa Rojas method of using fusible and glue for applique. This is a picture of my maple leaf. It turned out quite well although I need to work on points. I will hand applique it tomorrow and see how I like it. The fusible I had made it a little stiff but not any stiffer then if I'd used Wonderunder.Name: image.jpeg

Wonderful looking leaf. I love needle turned applique and my friend just got me to try a washable fusible and glue method. That has now become my favorite way to applique.

put off till tomorrow what you can do today, and if you procrastinate long enough, you may never have to do it.

Here it is hand appliquéd on a white background square. I must say the extra preparation made it very nice to sew down. The fusible and glue also make the turned under edges more secure so you don't have to worry about the edge fraying. I think I might make it into a flag for my front door for Canada's sequincentenial. Name: image.jpeg

I am facing a large applique project. I will have to research this method. Looks good.

Your leaf turned out great. I purchased her tools after seeing her on The Quilt Show. She made it look so easy. I'm still practicing, but I'm determined to become good enough to do a Baltimore Album quilt.

At Paducha Quilt Festival last year I picked up a product called "SoftFuse Premium". It has the softest hand of any fusible I've tried in over 40 years of quilting. I will never use another product on my quilts again. It is sold on Amazon and many quilting sites and stores.

    What fusible did you use?

in her method, the fusible interfacing has the exact pattern piece drawn on it and cut out and it is fused to the wrong side of the fabric. After fusing the fabric, the fabric shape is cut out with a seam allowance. The seam allowance is then folded over to the back using the edge of the interfacing as the guide after putting glue along the fabric edge.
NOW, as for what interfacing I used....It said Pellon and has been in my sewing closet for a loooong time. I think it was a little thick but it did make a nice edge to turn against. Since it was only a trial, I used what I had and I think I bought it for putting in a blouse collar.
