I got this at the thrif store and it is unlike any machine I've ever owned. Instead of a foot pedal, there are a varirty of sliding bars and 2 switches on the right side. I have the feeling it was a quality machine, probably early 80's, as near as I can date from the ModelZZ3-B850

Have you tried it yet? Looks like it might have been hard to pass up. I hope you get LOTS of use out of it.

I tried it out in the store and got a decent straight stitch, and found the book today in a cubby in the carrier. I am missing some accessories, I think, but it appears to have an alphabet, odd decorative stitches like elephants, fruit, chickens, and a batch of Chinese words, 99 in all, with 17 being in Asian writing.

The screen has Asian writing that I cannot decipher, but I think if I plug in the numbers, I should get the pattern shown in the manual, Just having an alphabet is worth the five bucks it cost me.

I don't have a clue, but I have a Japanese friend that can tell me what it says if you would like and I'm going down to see her tomorrow.

That's great!!! My DH works with people in China all the time. I asked if he had people who could translate. He laughed and said probably but not him.
