Default Australia Day Quilts

Australia Day is January 26.

Koala Friends - I got the inspiration for this quilt from an adult colouring in book. We do not have koalas in Tasmania (apart from in wildlife parks) but they are so cute.

The 'Tasmania' quilt is made up of 6 inch 'crazy' blocks done in varying shades of green fabrics. The crazy blocks are joined together, the Tasmania outline is cut out and then fused onto a background fabric.

I had so much fun making the Tasmania Quilt so I thought I would make an Australia Quilt to go with it. The Australia Quilt is done in the same manner. This quilt is called 'I Love a Sunburnt Country'.

These quilts are now hanging in a local arts and crafts gallery during January.

I love the "sunburnt country" quilt. Quite recognizable as Australia right away. Nicely executed.

You are very talented. I love the background fabric in the 1st picture. Would you share the name of that fabric or did you piece it? I can't tell from the picture.

Just lovely!

Those countries seem so exotic and mysterious to me...but then again I've never left the USA...so what do I know!

My Dad was in Perth during the war. He loved Australia and the people. He brought me a small koala bear made from soft real fur of some kind and I loved that bear to death. It lasted nearly 50 years. I am in my 70's now and still remember that bear and Dad's stories oh, so fondly.
