    Barn Block

The barn block that I made is ready to hang on our all white barn (yes, even the roof is all white--one of those new-fangled metal deals)
The block is eight feet by eight feet in size and called " End of Day"
I chose the colors because we have a yellow house, the lake beyond is blue and we have many mature green trees on the property.
The DH says we'll get the block hung when the new siding on the barn is completed this summer.

Nice. A lady I know (that does not quilt)thought barn quilts were actually made from fabric. Funny.

I love the barn quilts and you is beautiful It will look fantastic when it is up. Please post a pic when you get it hung. We have a quilt barn driving route that I will be going on when the weather gets nice again. Quite a few barns in our County have barn quilts on them.

Thanks to all of you. The block was way easier to get completed than I ever realized it would. Definitely, I'll do a photo to share when it gets hung on that all white barn this summer.
Thanks especially to my Minnesota peers--and doesn't a quilt barn driving route sound great!?

It looks excellent and all your points match perfectly! Are you going to hang it straight or on point in the peak of the barn's roof?

Tartan: DH says he wants it hung straight and just below and between to very tiny windows. It will also be hung from the road side so everyone who drives by can enjoy it. ;-)

That is so fun. We have a big airplane hanger and my hubby said he'd put a block up if I did one. Are there how to directions somewhere? Or could you give me directions, such as type of paint and what did you paint it on? I'd appreciate your knowledge and can't wait to see a pic of it hanging.

I have never seen quilts on barns except in pictures. I think they are neat and if our barn faced the road I would be wanting to put one on it. I can just imagine what hubby would say about that.

Sheri: I thought the block was super easy. There are some directions on the internet--Just google search and you'll see. What we did was this: The DH got some marine-quality plywood--two pieces that were each 8 feet by four feet in size. He screwed them together. I used a couple of coats of good primer and then drew my lines for the block I was making. I even noted where I wanted the colors so I wouldn't make mistakes with color placement. You also notice that I chose a very graphic block with not alot of lines--we wanted a "showy" block not one that was not noticeable from the road. Then I just used indoor paint on is. I figured I'd be using several coats of a non-yellowing polyurothane to seal the whole deal so it really didn't matter what kind of paint I used to get it done. If I can find a poly that is oil based that I can use on top of non-oil paint I will--otherwise I'll just use many coats of poly on both the back and the front of the block before they hang it from the barn. That's it. Very simple and fun to do. I encourage you to do one!
