Default Barn quilt final coat

Hello all.

Looking through all your beautiful barn quilts on this board I ask what final coat do you put on your painted board before you hang it outside. I live in Michigan, so we get all sorts of weather. I want to protect it. It will be facing the west and will get that hot afternoon summer sun. I used Behr premium plus paint. (the little samples they have at Home Depot). What do you suggest.

Sorry, I'm having difficultly posting it. I took the pic with my cell (of course), but it won't send to my computer to post it on this board.

Thank you all,
Donna

I wasn't going to use any other finish. I bought exterior paint and figure if it's good enough for a house it ought to be OK for something to go on the house.

I made my barn quilt about 4 years ago and I did not put any finish on it, just used outdoor paint and it is good as new. It is out all year long rain and snow.

My barn quilt is on the west end of my garage, sort of tucked up under the eaves. There are some trees in that area also, so it gets very little afternoon sun. It's doing well. It was made by a Mennonite lady about six years ago.

I'm making my first barn quilt (actually two of them...one for outside and one for inside). I am using the color samples for interior/exterior and don't plan on sealing over quilt. However, I am going to do a sealer coat on the back side of the barn quilt for outside for moisture protection. I'm worried about sealer causing the "white" to turn yellow or I Would probably seal front too. Not taking any chances and many say no problems if you use exterior paint.

Thank you all.
I like the sealer on the back side as I'm sure my board may be a bit curved. We'll see. I did re paint my steel door that it will be hanging on. Barn quilts will out live us all. That's a good thing to all us quilters.
