Bedskirt, pillow shams and the star quilt

I know many of you have seen the quilt, so I'll skip to much of it, but the king sized pillow shams with cute little ruffles and the bedskirt with more cute little ruffles and the quilt went in the mail today and I am so happy! I am not one of those girly girl people, ruffles are not exactly hard, but they are a bit of a pain. It always amazes me that just because we quilt, others think we know how to sew like a seamstress. Some of you may but not me.

you did a fabulous job. i know what you mean on ruffles. however, i found a new way of doing the ruffles and it has made them less of a pain.... you draw out enough thread from top and bobbin thread, then zigzag over it. when you reach the end, you just draw up the thread and it makes it much easier. not such a chore anymore. (clear as mud?)

I will remember this for the future, especially since I did it the hard way first! Thanks!

Beautiful, I can sew lots of things but, I don't. I make pillow covers to go with the quilts we use and have made several bed ruffles for our bed. I refuse to mend or sew anything but quilts.

Your projects are very nice. I love the mix of colors and fabrics.
I agree, Alikat110, about zigzaging over other thread for ruffling. I usually use maybe crochet thread or something heavier that regular thread to zigzag over. I can remember sewing those three rows of stitching and pulling and pulling on the bobbin thread to ruffle the fabric, then one or two of the threads break somewhere in the length of fabric. This method is soo much easier and much less likely to come apart to the point it has to be taken out and re-done.

Yes on the free motion, I do have a long arm and it makes it easier in my opinion. Before I had a long arm though I had a little handi-quilter frame I could use with my regular machine, that also worked well.
