I made the blades using the Dresden fan blade template - 7-1/2".... 5 per block. Blocks were 10-1/2" square using tone on tone white..... The circles were about 3-1/2" cut quarters circles from a 4" square of fabric. I faced the circles with self fabric, clipped and turned the seam. I appliqued all the fans to the white and then appliqued the 1/4 circles on top of the blades. If you want, I can send you the directions for making this block. I can also send you the layout I used from the Fan Book I have. You, of course, can make yours any size you want, this just happened to be the size for our swap.

I would make it bed size in some way - adding several borders - black, then white, then white background with smaller black & white/multi-colored centers fans scattered here and there , and finish with a black binding.
