Border Advice - D9P All Shook Up
#1
Finished sewing all my blocks together yesterday and headed for the LQS. Found a beautiful batik for the border. Several customers jumped in with opinions and this fabric won! I am building a 2nd border with blocks of the original fabric, but not sure I want to use it. There are also a couple of more additional fabrics at the LQS that I could use to make a 2nd solid border. DH likes it just as it is - finish off and bind it without a 2nd row. What do you all think?

Love this quilt, I would do both purple borders skinny like the outside one, & let the outer one be the edge of your quilt. I like busy, so this is just my opinion...
Hmm, someone mentioned dark blue, lol, but your borders look dark purple to me?

This is just my opinion (but it's your quilt).
I would have made the purple border 4"-5" wide (or even wider - I love wiiiiidddddddeeee borders!), bound it in the same fabric, and called it a day.
The thicker border width would have really solidly framed the quilt, and the inside blocks would just pop off it.
The inside is so interesting with all those lights flickering that putting the same fabrics so close on the outside takes away from it.

My vote ... I'd make the deep purple border 1" wide then put a WIDE outer border of a softer color from the quilt outside of that. Binding ... another soft color, but a different one.
I think the quilt itself is busy enough that a piano key border would detract from it.

At first I really liked the dark border, I thought it would frame the fabrics really well, but then i looked at the border with the blocks and I like it much better. It does not take away from the inner fabric at all!
