I have one very similar and I think each piece is from a feed sack, or as my DH says, potato sack material. It's very sturdy too - when it was given to me, I had to add a border and do a little touch up here and there. But it still looks great!

So nice of you to take this on. I, too, handquilt so I'm sure it has taken you awhile to finalize this beautiful quilt. It's a wonderful pattern and the final result is just fantastic. Love the Boston Commons pattern.
