Yep they are chaps, gloves, belt buckles and maybe even some spurs. I have been around horses a bit so to answer the question about chaps, cowboys worn them over their jeans so when they had to rescue cattle stuck in the briers they would not tare their pants up, also they helped to keep snakes from biting through to the legs when they were walking the trails.

Hi ...spa... Spats are suspenders for socks from the 20s my uncle use to wear them .. lol we giggled when he said his socks fall down and he had to hold them up some how .....chaps are worn over clothing when motor biking..

Favorite fabrics, go to yahoo.com or google and type in spats and chaps and there are pictures of how each are worn and just what they look like. This might help you with the chaps to decide if you want to use the fab. or not in your quilt. I would use it if I were making a cowboy quilt and had other fab. to go along with it. What other fab. are you using, do you have pics.?
