    I would guess buying a bolt wholesale (if possible) would be the way to go.

    muslin is what I used I buy it by the bolt of 25 yards and have used almost all of the bolt I bought to make this quilt of cathedral windows.

    I have a book that shows several different shaped' windows', as well as different colored background fabric used, but I have to say my favorite look is the muslin with lots of different fabrics for the windows; that simple scrappy look 'calls to me'.
