Thanks for all the lovely comments. It is a good feeling to finally get one or two things finished, but I'm never completely finished as there are always more UFOs in the pipeline
Loretta: I use a flat material for the batting, for these I used an old woven blanket, been washed heaps so doesn't shrink, or could use felt or pellon or anything that doesn't have puff. I think you can get a very flat cotton, not sure on that, over here cotton batting is too expensive for me so I've never used it. Old blankets work good for me as I can get them for $5 -$10 fom the opp shop, they are also great for wall hangings as they dont shift as much during quilting and hold their shape better, helps prevent wavey edges. two layers of blanket work well in a pot holder as wool is very good insulation. Well I think I've burbled on enough, don't you

Most materials are expensive in New Zealand.... the materials for quilts can range from about $20 per metre to around $30/$34 per metre.... I try to spend no more than $25 per metre....
I may be repeating myself in the first sentence....don't know what happened but all of a sudden I lost what I was typing... so sorry about that.

Hi Tim :D Thanks for the lovely compliment. New Zealand doesn't have a cotton industry of it's own, so everything has to be imported, I don't think it can grow here :?: we grow heaps of wool though :P Which is prob why I can get wool batt for $15.50 p/m whereas cotton is around $28 p/m. But there's always an alternative, where theres a will there's a way :D
