Thank you everyone. I waffled between several designs until I saw the owl in a fall quilt magazine. He had a pilgrim hat on but that was easy enough to remove. He was too cute to pass up. I just knew the teal I had already pulled from my stash had to be irises.

The cat fabric in the photo is actually my ironing board cover. And yes, 4 more bright fabrics were added to my collection after the win.

Seems like applique is the way to go for this challenge. This was my winning block last year:

I'm gathering possible patterns for next year already.

As someone else said a winning block made for charity is a win-win for everyone.

Thanks for looking.

Congratulations!!!!
.... for meeting the challenge of what to do with that fabric and your choices that created a winner! You found a unique pattern, that worked with the challenge fabric and others from your stash. Nicely done, in all ways!!

How nice that you were recognized by many others for it too.

So nice to see your 2014 winning block again ... loved it then, and still do.

Be sure to remember these accomplishments, anytime you feel a bit discouraged with your sewing. You earned it and are continuing onwards to even more great things in the quilty world!

Love your block - baby owls are so cute. And, your "loot" is mighty nice. Go for it.
