They are fun to make...I fill mine with bird grit found in the pet section.

I love the chicken pin cushions made from little log cabin blocks. I think they each have personality of their own, and the eyes are a good use for a couple of stray buttons. I use left over batting, threads and tiny scraps for filling, and really cram them in there to give some weight.
