I recently found two older chicken scratch pattern books at a thrift store.....grabbed them, as it's on my "to do list."

My MIL taught me chicken scratching many years ago but I never used it in a quilt, only aprons and pillows. It's going to make a beautiful quilt. Love the red.

What a wonderful quilt and thank you for bringing new life and recognition to an old technique. I love it!

Somewhere I know I have chicken scratch patterns. I think it's with all my cross stitch stuff - I'm trying to remember but it seems to me that you needed to be careful about the gingham you bought. It needed to be something or another. Anybody know what in the world I'm trying to remember? Thanks. Bye the way, beautiful quilt. Great idea.

Piecesin, yes you are right. The gingham at Hancock's, JoAnn's, and Hobby Lobby is the kind you need to buy. The gingham at Wal Mart is not good,it will shrink to much after you complete the design and some of it shines and I don't like that.

Really pretty. I have done this a long time ago. Did the letter S for my daughter but would like to to other letters.
Does anyone know where I could acquire the other letters?

I did chicken scratch back about 15 years or more ago. I loved doing it and it does make a striking design. I love your quilt. I would probably have to teach myself to do it again but I do still have some books and patterns for it. I may just get those out and do some again sometime in the near future!
